strange video problem

I've been having an intermittent problem with my Asus VW246 monitor connected to my radeon HD 7970. I leave my computer on 24/7 and when I wake in the morning sometimes the computer and monitor will be on but just a black lit screen. Nothing will wake it. I usually hard reset the computer.

This time however i tried pulling the DVI cable from the back of the computer. The monitor went dead black and reported no signal. Then simply replugging the cable back into the computer, the monitor displayed the desktop...

I have regular power saving settings but there is something wrong with this. Anyone have any ideas?

I'd see if you can do a complete, clean reinstall of your video drivers. Not letting the driver uninstall them, but physically remove all residual folders, files, and registry settings after removing the drivers either via the control panel or via device manager.
