Here's the system specs first off:

Asus P4S8X
- Sis 648 chipset
P4 2.4 GHz (Woody core, 533 bus)
512MB PC2100 (2x256)
GF4 Ti4600 128MB

I can get into WinXP Pro w/ SP2 no problem. I installed it and ran it for a couple weeks without a hitch. Now, all of sudden, I can't get into windows. When it boots up, the load screen comes up and then all of a sudden the monitor goes black and the system hangs. If I hit F8 and bring up the menu, I can go to safe mode and uninstall the video driver and everything is fine. Load into windows normally, try to re-install the driver (v61.77 and WHQL version off Windows Update both) and the problem re-occurs.

I am at my wits end trying to figure out how a driver issue occurs out of no where. I am thinking the card may have crapped out and isn't doing hardware acceleration properly, thus without a driver it forces software and works with really slow refresh.

Any thoughts?

Uhh... maybe refresh rate wrong = monitor can't do it = goes in safety mode = it acts as if the system hung? =D I know when my system hangs (not often) it goes into worst case a pretty blue screen! =O

i had that with my 9700, in safe mode, go to the device manager. then right click on your ti4600 and manually update the driver. maybe that will help.
