My first overclock exercise (so please bear with me). Getting strange readings with my Vcore readings and I hope someone can shed some light on the situation.

Have overclocked from 3 to 3.6GHz as my first step (9x400). Had to set Vcore in BIOS to 1.275 to be very stable with tests (was 1.225 default auto setting with 3GHz). CPU-Z (and other monitor programs) show the same Vcore as 1.264 when CPU idle - Vdroop of 0.011 - I thought a bit high for idle but fair enough.

Strange thing is when I check BIOS PC Health, it shows Vcore of 1.284. Where is this value coming from? Shouldn't it either match the BIOS setting of 1.275, match what CPU-Z is giving or at least be a lower value because of voltage drop somewhere? Why is it higher?

Thanks,

a bit high? thats a bit low....

Vdroop for me is 1.40 down to 1.36-37

your fine.

First off: vdroop is the difference in vcore between idle and load states. 0.011 is not your vdroop.

Secondly: It is perfectly normal for boards to show a difference between set voltage and actual voltage. My board is set to 1.375 in BIOS, but only puts out about 1.248 idle/1.240 load (which makes my vdroop 0.008V), so really you board is pretty accurate. However, I don't know why there would be a difference between BIOS PC Health and CPU-Z, they both show the exact same voltage on my board.

CPU-Z and my bios show a huge difference. I have my bios set to 1.45. It shows in CPU-Z as 1.39-1.41. It bounces arround a bit. When I load up orthos it drops to 1.34-1.36v under load.

Thanks for the Vdroop clarification.

Yes, can understand differences being lower than expected but I was really curious why the PC Heath value is higher. I plan to o/c some more and I am a bit paranoid about overvolting my new (relatively expensive) CPU.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I'm much more familiar with asus boards (as you may be able to tell), I'm not sure if there might be some known issue with the DS3P in this regard or not. It is odd that the value shown is higher than the input value in BIOS...

Could be a bios bug. If there is an upgraded do it. But you are far from overvolting so no worries.
