Strange Tiling artifacts x800XL

First off, machine has specs from my sig:

So recently i've been getting very strange tiling artifacts popping up after gaming for a few hours straight.

(this has only happened while playing wow, but it's pretty much all i've played since this started happening)

Exiting the game doesn't help, I end up with the same tiled artifacts on tooltips within windows, but everything becomes fine after a reboot.

Now, this started happening around the time it started getting warmer where I live, so I thought i may be having an overheating problem, however it's also around the time I updated to the latest catalyst drivers. Has anyone else experienced something like this before?


I've checked all my fans, everything seems to be running fine, but i've been taking off my case whenever this happens and haven't gotten reoccurences since then, so I guess there may be a dust issue. Temp-wise from my nvidia monitor i'm getting ~38C for CPU and ~48 "case" temps during full load. I'm still not sure if I can even get a GPU temp (ATItool doesn't show anything, i'm running an ATI retail card).

Anyone have any ideas?
 
Try underclocking your card a little so the temps lower a little and see if it still happens.
 
Re-set the Card back to factory defaults, that is if you have been OCing it and see what happens. If that does not work. Try doing this *** For ATI users ***

And if your having problems monitoring temps with ATI Tool, you can try ATI Tray Tools it does have the option to monitor GPU & Case temps. Good luck and hope it all works out for ya.
 
**UPDATE**

so i started running wow with the case off and haven't been getting trouble again, but i decided to download atitraytool to check out my temps. Now I know video cards normally get hotter than CPU/mobo temps, but should my card really be hitting 85C after 5 minutes?? Seems awfully high to me, so I'm guessing that's what's causing the trouble. Everything's running at stock speeds, so I don't know how that can be causing trouble. Last summer when I built this box I was able to run fine in a non-ac room (without the case off) so i'm not sure what's causing it to heat up so much now. Could dust be the problem?

Is the fan running properly? When the PC is off, try moving the fan with your finger - if there is any resistance then it could be failing. When the PC is on, try listening to the fan to hear any unusual noises like grinding or warbling.
 
assuming it may be a dying fan (or just a high temp solution), are there any 3rd party single slot coolers that I can get to replace it? Seems everything is a 2 slot solution htese days, but none of those will ever fit into my shuttle case.
