uhhhhh my radeon is being really gay. Ever since i changed my case it dosent work anymore and i hav 2 go back 2 using my old gf2mx. Any1 kno the problem???????? its a powercolor 9600xt

my specs r p4b-m, p41.6ghz, 256sdram(its so slow), 40 gig segate hdd, 230watt power supply unknown brand, sb live

oh yeh the prob is it wont start up. the fan on it runs perfectly just no picture is comin up

a) Stop typing the way you are if you want to last more than 10 posts around here.

b) What exactly did you do? You mentioned you changed your case. Did the card work in your old case? What else did you change?

Your power supply also seems pretty weak, but it should be good enough for that older pentium, low ram amount and 1 hdd.

If you have another system, test the 9600XT in that.

Yeh it did work in my old case but for some reason it aint working in the new case. its Antec super lanboy. I was thinking of getting a new powersupply soon. Could that fix it?

nah i dont have another system the one i am using now will eventually become my second pc

try taking everything out of the case and then running it sat on the a piece of cardboard or somin...i dont see y the case would make any difference...more likely u stuffed it when taking it out or somethng...

-_- how did i stuff it i took it out really slowly i think i need a betta power supply but wat do i know

. , ' ? : ; " <------------- These are some common examples of what english speaking people call "punctuation marks". They're used for proper spelling, breaking up sentences, and to complete sentences. You should try using them.

That's a link to a guide on punctuation.

As far as your video card goes, try and reseat it. It sounds like it just isn't in the AGP slot all the way. Either that or you fried it installing it into the new board. You were careful to ground yourself to get rid of static electricity right?

Good luck... with both the grammar, and the video card.

Maybe he forgot to plug the 5.0volt 4-pin connector back into the video card?

That would come up with a

"You forgot to add power, dumbass" message. :p

Blank screen is something else.

I'd check it outside the case, if it doesn't work then, you probably killed it.

1. remove the card and try in another box, just to see if it boots.

if you pass #1, follow #2:

2. remove your hard drive, floppy drive, cd rom power & data connectors as well as removing the sound card and any other peripherals from the system. try booting with just cpu, memory, & video card.

if you pass #2, follow #3:

3. start hooking back up all your devices one by one, and boot each time you add something. start with the most neccesary, and move your way up to the add ons, ie: first comes floppy, next comes hard drive, next comes atapi / scsi drives, sound, zips, card readers, etc. if at any point it stops booting, make sure you are hooking everything up correctly.

if you fail all of the above tests in their entirety, you have a faulty video card. make sure that you are grounding yourself properly when working on your system, you can seriously mess things up electrostatically if you are not. good luck.

edit: you may also have a bad power supply, as well as the other comp you try it in, if neither boot (or power supplies not capable of handling the load)

once you have the card seated in the AGP slot, trying pulling it up a millimeter or two. if there is a retention bracket, pull it up as much as the bracket will allow. my brother had a problem like this with his video card. he bumped his computer and the video stopped working. we thought the card was kaput, but i tested it in my system. tried it in his again - same problem. pulled the card up out of the agp slot a millimeter or so and it worked perfectly.

or he just remembered he has a 9600.

I dont see how i fried it becuase i dont have any carpet in my house.
well anyways i've chosen that i'll get a better power supply thnx for the help guys

Well surely you have a friend. (although you never know). So just run over to his place and tell him your gonna try your vid card in it and see.

I wouldn't run out and spend money like that unless you know for sure that it is the PSU. Unless you just have gobbs of money to throw around.

your t-shirt, your armpits, even the hair on your ass when moved can generate static charge. unless you are doing work on your computer in a dust-free room with insulated flooring, naked right after a brazillian wax or whatever the hell they call that.... (i'm not sure that would be 100% safe anyway, so don't bother) you need to ground yourself to your case when you work on your components. they make a special wristband with an alligator clip to attach to the case if you want to make sure you are grounded... or you could just rest your arm on a part of the metal case before you touch components, while making sure your arm doesnt lose contact with the case while you are working. carpet can help induce static charges, but not having a carpet does not mean there will be no static.

Well this seem sinteresting. From what I read I agree with everyone else, you probably ESDed your vid card man, but if were smart and didn't touch anything metal on the card it should be fine even if you didn't ground yourself (ie if you touched the edges of the card or the metal part on the back of the card it should be fine). I only say this becuse I got an old P2 sys tem for my sister for a basic cheap computer and carried it home with no anti static bag or ability to ground myself. So I just carried the mobo home by holding the edges of the boar being careful not to touch anything. I got home from school and threw it into and old case I had and it worked fine. Runs Win98 with no probs.

I would recomend upgrading your PSU anyway regardless of it possibly being the problem. I had a 350watt PSU in my old comp and it put out just enough to power my P4 system. I decided I didn't want to deal with that instability anymore and got my self a Vantec 520w Stealth for $200. Works great and I tossed my old system to my parents since they had a POS comp that was 8 years old.

Also you might try seeing what you have your AGP speed set at as I do belive the 9600's support 4x/8x. You might have it set at 2x which would cause a problem but I'm not sure as I've never set any of my cards lower than 4x.

Something similar happened to my brothers comp but it had to deal with BIOS version and RAM speed...

Anyway, hope that maybe gave you some ideas. Some of it may sound like I don't know what I'm doing but the only way to solve something like this is trial and error.

This is one of those times I wish I could make a house call. *chuckles*

Yah i am upgrading my psu. Its also very loud which annoys me quite alot.

hey - Getting better with the punctuation. I saw that period there, junior. soon enough, you'll be talking right with us BIG BOYS!

God damn I think the question mark to word ratio in your posts is more or less 1:1, one question mark will be enough for each question thank you.

Try to reseat the card, push it in until you cant see the gold contacts on the AGP connector, or maybe it will work once you start using semi-proper grammar.

maybe he plugged in a 3.3v agp slot mobo when his video card is 1.5 just a possibility

lol leave me alone its not my fault i'm not good at english. well maybe it is.................. just call me lazy
