I'm not exactly sure what is going on with my HP laptop, but after years and years of working with hardware/software, this one has me stumped.
Basically, it boots up, but everything seems to be on crack... as in, sped up. It's running Win7, and even the pulsing of the Windows boot logo is super fast.
When it gets to the desktop, it's black with a cursor only. If I hit the space bar, the ctrl/alt/delete screen comes up (joined to domain). If I log in, the bacgrounds cycle ever 30 seconds or so, instead of every few minutes. The power saving (blank screen) comes on after 30 seconds instead of 10 minutes or so. The mouse cursor (in a DOS prompt) blinks very quickly. Any animation is so fast, it appears to blink.... you get the point.
I'm wondering if a stuck key can do this? Also, the laptop is a tablet, so it's a touchscreen.
Of additional note, my daughter stepped on it once, but it seemed fine right after. That was a few weeks ago now, I think.
I'm really at a loss. The next step is to wipe it and reformat, but I have some car tuning software where the activation process is a PITA, so I consider that a last resort.
Also, I did the whole safe mode, last good config, etc... no luck. I also used the Win7 setup disc to get into system restore and roll it back a few weeks. Same thing.
Also, in Windows Setup, the hyper fast flickering crap didn't happen.
I hope someone has seen this before.
