I bought an Opteron 146 just for fun and it is a 0550 DPAW. Toss it under the waterblock and load windows at stock Vcore and clocks with my Mushkin 2x1G Redlines. Windows goes on fine and thought I would try 260x10 1:1 3-3-2-7 2.6V and stock Vcore. Boots fine and loads windows.

Next attemp is 290 9:10 divider stock Vcore. No luck, and reboots just as windows loads. Up Vcore to 1.44, and try again with no success. Try 1.48 and still nothing.

Frustrated I try my OCZ 3700 Platiunum 2x512 TCCD that I know does 310Mhz with 2.5-4-3-6 timings and it boots into windows at 292 1:1 2.5-4-3-6 2.8v 1.44Vcore.Thought I would shoot for the moon and go for 3.0 and it loads fine and does 2M, 4M Super PI all at 1.44Vcore. Start bumping it up with Clockgen and doing 1M superPI runs. after I had tried several different speed and voltages I got upto 3118Mhz 26.644s at 1.61Vcore.

Problem is I cant get this thing Prime stable for more than a minute, even tho I can run SuperPI at way higher Clocks. Does this just mean it has a fantastic memcontroller?

I am soaking the chip right now in Solvo-Plast (medical adheasive remover) to remove the IHS to see if I can get it Prime stable at 3.0Ghz. I am thinking it might just be heat related because even unter my waterblock it is loading at 50-52c at 3.0 and 1.48Vcore. My X2 at 2.8+Ghz and 1.65V runs at 37c loaded naked.

I am hoping it is just heat.:)

0550 146? Does it have a CCBWE stepping? Because that's mostly a dual core week.

Sorry:) its a 0604 CAB2E. I bought a 3800+ X2 as well and I got the weeks mixed up:)

Yes, I know. I have removed 6 IHS's so far with the razor and presoaking the CPU in Solvoplast for 12-14 hours prior to taking the razor to it. It makes the sealant so soft you can remove the IHS in less than 30 seconds and do such a good job you could reattach the IHS andd no-one would know.

I would never reattach the IHS and sell it without somebody knowing it, or for that matter try and RMA, but it definately does an awesome job.

As far as an update on the Opty, I have got it to the point where it is 4 hours prime stable at 3Ghz with 2.5-4-3-6 timings and 1.54Vcore. OCCT fails right away tho. I think it is my memory. I will have to tinker with it some more later. Went back to my X2 for now.

Will have to wait for some more time off to really get goin on it.
