Got my Venice 3000+ stable, or at least Prime95, 3DMark, and UT2K4 say it is.
However Im getting a strange issue now and then. Sometimes if I click the start menu, and then go to Control Paanel (I have control panel setup to auto-expand off the start menu), the expanded control panel menu "hangs" in that I cant click any of the items, and it doesnt clear off the screen. Whats really strange is that it doesnt refresh (even if I try to open a window of something else over it), and the rest of the machine works fine (heck, Im typing this right now with the start menu in my way). NOTE: I also lose control of the taskbar at this point (i.e. I can see icons, but cant click them.....the clock stops updating, etc).
The only other way Ive gotten this to occur is to open Windows Media Player. Once I open it, it comes up fine but doesnt respond to any controls (keyboard, mouse, etc). It also causes the taskbar to stop responding. But the rest of the machine is fine. I can ctrl-alt-del, end task on WMP, and then go along as happy as ever.
Ive tried the new ATI Catalyst drivers but to no avail. The machine is stable in everything else, but for some reason I get this funky "refresh/lose taskbar" issue every now and then. Ive also noticed it happens in Windows Media Player if I open a file directly thru it. Anything that uses WMP in the web browser seems to work without issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks!!
