Strange issue on start up

I'm posting this in the general hardware section because i'm not sure whether it is a hardware or software issue.

but ive been having a very strange problem with my pc.
and i believe it does have something to do with windows 8, because i dont remember this happening with windows 7 using the same rig.

but basically
after a clean install of windows 8 everything works fine for a while.
then a couple months in i get a problem where the first start up always fails.
i get to the windows loading screen, and after its done loading it will just say dvi no signal.
i will have to hard restart and everything loads up fine.

this same situation happens every time.
i will do a completely clean install of the os and everything else on the pc.
things will be running fine, then a month or two in the problem starts happening again.

any ideas?
 
I would suggest taking a peak of the Windows Event logs, System and Application to see what might be failing during the boot-up window
