Hey guys, ok so heres the deal. A friend brought me a laptop of his, an Acer Aspire 3610, with winxp home loaded on it, he has had it for a while and recently got hit with a large amount of virus' and spyware. Now, between spybot, manual registry editing, NOD32 and easy cleaner, ive gotten rid of almost every problem. The last thing that is pestering me is the fact that internet explorer/windows explorer repeatedly crash, over and over and over. I get a:

"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" error reporting msg, after which it simply crashes, reloads, and then crashes again instantly. Internet Explorer acts the same way, just not quite as often

Looking through event viewer i get 2 errors, 1 in relation to the IE problem, one in relation to the WE error they look like this:

Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module ibm00001.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00007608.

Sounds like the ibm00001.dll file got infected, and was damaged during the cleanup. Find a good copy of it somehow.

Try a windows repair and if that doesn't work do the old backup->format->install windows.

Oh yea, try "sfc /scannow" in the command line too.
