strange electrical interference

I've been getting all sorts of interference from my computer. When I'm using it, the screen will shutter, and lines of electrical badness will go across it. Also, the speakers are popping a lot. What is going on here? What sorts of things cause this kind of crap? Is it because I live in an apartment with power fluctuations?

my rig

P4 2.80E on Asus P4P800 Se
2x512 MB of Samsung DDR400
geForce FX 5900XT
160GB Seagate SATA
80GB WD
16X LG DVDRW
TiSonic 460W EPS

Also could be like my situation where my cell phone does it to my work PC just as I am getting a call.

damn nextel.. it makes my speakers tick at me.. and my monitor get all wavy... most car stereos pick it up too..

CHOCK CHOCK CHOCK CHOCK CHOCK.... Bee doo dee doo doop.. Bee doo dee doo doop.

I always know when a call is coming in before the phone rings. ;) Isn't that a good thing?

Anyhoo... Check around the computer for anything that might use 900MHz. Sometimes that can cause issues. I've had everything from baby monitors to X10 screw with PC's. You never know. ;-)

so you all think it's some electronic madness outside of my computer? I'm looking at my cell phone that is sitting next to my monitor.... I don't know. I'd appreciate any other ideas... because I actually don't think it's the phones or anything.

Well if it was just PC problems I would say the PSU. But since it is affecting the speakers and the monitor it could be the AC coming in. That means you need ot get a line conditioner/UPS if it isn't some other EM interference.

Can we get some pictures? I doubt power fluctuations from the AC mains will do anything.

Depends on the crappyness of your power grid. This would be an extreme case but voltages would drop as low as 110 on my old grid fairly regularly.

that would be ideal... but it would also involve me waiting at my computer with a camera... like trying to take a picture of lightning. I don't think it's my psu. Although TiSonic isn't well known, it is a quality power supply that I've read a few reviews on. I'm not using a hardcore power bar or anything... it's actually just some generic one. Any tips on a good cheap one?

None other than cheap=not so good. ;)

/rant
Seriously I love people going out and spending 500 dollars on a videocard and then 50 on a psu and 8 on surge supressor and wondering wtf happened to their system when the majic smoke appears. That isn't aimed at you just a general observation. /end rant

well did you try moving your cell phone away from the monitor... cause cell phones DO interfere when are close to screens...

Of course. The cell phone was only there the one time.

HAM radio operator.... look for large antenas on the roof or back yard of your neighbors houses.
Man, if there is someone using a HAM radio in my building, I will ignore these power issues and rock out to that.
