My E6400 on Ds3 will do dual prime/orthos all day at 8x350 (2.8)on 1.325 ..will boot up at 3.5 on default voltage also...but will will error out on anything over 2.9ghz (even with 1.5v)
Yet it will do 7x450 (3.15) 24hrs prime/orthos with just 1.36.... currently testing 7x460 (3.22ghz) 1.4v

my question is...why 8x will fail on 2.9ghz n over yet 7x can pass 3.15ghz

p.s. my ram is xms2 6400 cosair cas5

Memory/Northbridge issues. We need to wait for better chipsets as most are hitting FSB walls at X multiplier.

what is your mem divider at...
i didnt even think about trying 7x. but when i was oc using 8x at 1:1 divider i hit a wall very early ( i think it was somewhere around 2.6ghz) until i changed the divider to 4:5 ( i got the same mobo and proc)

so you are getting higher stable oc at 7x compared to 8x?

my memory is 1:1

yes i m getting more stable clock with 7x ...i cant get anything over 2.8ghz stable with 8x....
with 7x... 3.15 is stable with 1.3625 votts.... but with 8x...no amount of voltage can make 3.0ghz stable... so strange...i m still testing 7x to see if i can get more than 3.15.... 3.22ghz on 7x
failed othoas in 8hrs..that's with 1.40v....trying higher volts now

you might wanna try different mem dividers as well. in my case, the 1:1 ratio, i hit a wall very early on, but then went to 4:5 ratio and got a pretty big jump in my oc. i might go try to reoverclock mine using 7x now :p

high memory divider = doesnt boot ( i guess xms2 c5 suck??? ).. but anyway...flashed to the F5 official bios and now 8x 425 (3.4ghz) 1.425v is now stable!!!!!! i just wanted 8x400..so i m real happy now
