strange driver install issue!

hi all.

I have a strange driver install "issue", one that Google could not help me with!

I installed a new HIS HD 6770. I uninstalled my nvidia 8800gt, cleaned the registry of nvidia entries, ala ccleaner and Glary.

when I used the ati 11.11 driver package, from ati, the install began and it quickly stopped with an error message.

"setup stops, system is not a 64x operating system"!

I have vista 64x with sp1 and sp2 !!
emachine 3.8 processor.

I then went to the HIS site and got *their* driver package from AMD, i think. the installer
listed this 11.11 install package as "32x/64x" as part of the name. a :confused:larger file than from the other location.
[must check internally upon install.]

Now this install went perfectly and when I rebooted, the desktop shows the new graphics.

????
I wonder if that error message should be ignored? Does it portend problems ahead?
I also, before i installed the sp1 and the sp2 for Vista, i tried to run the microsoft readiness tool to check my files to see if sp1/2 could be installed OK. I had a error message,
"not for your operating system"!

I suppose some file, that is checked by these programs, has a "tag" on it for maybe vista 32x [86x]!!

Of course I also upgraded my explorer from 7 to 9, much much better browser, now, and if i recall aright, the explorer 9 comes in only 32x version.

nothing simple these days.
even installing the card itself, why the computer would not boot at first as deep in the darkness of my box, i did not see that the extender prongs at the end of the card were a mite longer than the space my computer box would permit. the card could not be seated 100%. i had to do Amputation surgery on the prong headers!

the card itself, why the fan at "low use" is much quieter than the low use fan of my 8800gt.
