I'd like your thoughts on the following issue with the rig in my signature. I am trying to recall some of these settings from memory since I'm at work, but I will try to be as accurate as possible:
1. FSB: 443 (E8400 running at 3.987 Ghz)
2. LLC enabled; stable 1.36 V to the CPU
3. I ticked up the NB voltage a couple of notches, so it isn't too high (don't remember the exact value)
4. Temps, according to Realtemp, are generally in high 30s to mid 40s in daily use
5. With the settings above, the system has passed multiple runs of Orthos for periods of 24+ plus
Here is the strange issue. Every so often, when I load and start playing a game, the video just goes blank. You can hear the audio playing, but I am not 100% if the system is locked or if the video has just blanked out. Upon rebooting the system, there are no errors in the event logs and no other obvious errors.
These "crashes" only happen once every week or so, and only when I first start the computer and try to play a game. So far, the last few times they've happened have all been when I tried to play Age of Conan. I did have a similar crash while playing Crysis when I first built the system, but I was still experimenting with overclock settings so I can't really include that in the analysis as I can't guarantee the settings I used then were stable.
I literally can play games (including Age of Conan) for hours on end, and as I said, this system has passed multiple Orthos runs for time periods over 24 hours. These infrequent issues kind of bother me, however. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing them? I did notice one other thing that I might try as well -- when I boot, there is an "Ai nap" icon in my task bar. I know I have manually killed this app a few times, so I am wondering if the times I killed it correspond to the days it crashed. It might make sense given the symptoms, but I am not sure yet.
