Strange Copy and Paste issue

I have a 1gb compactflash SanDisk onto which I would like to load a number of digital photos. Using my Mitsumi 7-1 card reader I copied and pasted a number of images. The card is less than 15% full (134mb used/ 834mb free) and I am getting the following message when I try to add any more images:

"Cannot copy XXXXXX. The Directory or File cannot be created."

This also happens when I try copying from different directories, drag and drop, and using the "Send To" option. The JPEG images are not protected or read only. Anyone know what is going on?
 
Open the card in explorer and try creating a new .txt document on it and see if it works or gives an error.

Is the card write protected?
 
It is a compactflash card, so I don't see how it would be write protected. I did create a .txt file and saved it to the card. That worked fine. I then tried to copy a phot over and got the same error message.
