Strange bios problem

hey guys, a friend and i decided to get a small home network going out of rag tag parts we had laying around. one machine is up and running ready to host some wicked cool quake1 lan action but with the second im running into a strange problem with the bios. the board is a abit kt7a-raid with a amd duron800 and a geforce2 ti on it. so, everything is together first things first, set up first boot device to be floppy.....save and reboot....no response......not from monitor, no beep, nada. reset the bios and boot, boots into the windows installed on the hdd fine, runs and no problem, idea is to put win98 on the machine (mostly for fun) so now that the bios has been reset go back in and change the boot device, same thing happens again. first thing i thought was bios battery, changed that out for a used and then new one, no difference. then i thought mebbe PS so i switch that out for brand new one, no diff...same problem is happening whenever any change is made in the bios.....if no changes are made it seems to run flawlessly.........

this has just been frustrating me for a while, any thoughts or suggestions? (we dont have another crap board to put anywhere and the only extra cpu is the socket a duron.....so not only is it a perfect match but its our only solution)

I guess I would try to find an OS that you can boot from CD for it. I would think that you probably wouldn't really need to make any BIOS changes then and could be fine. So the BIOS freaks out if you make ANY changes?

ya, it doesnt like it if you change anything, it jsut doesnt respond at all, remove ram u still get a beep, but no vga response.......just reset the bios and it all goes fine again

take the CMOS battery out..... hold it in your hand for like 5 minutes and put it back to reset everything (it takes longer sometimes).
