Long story short:

I accidentally mashed one of the plastic pegs on the stock heat sink fan that came with my e6300, remember kids: don't install the Heat sink fan until you have the motherboard up on its standoffs/

Anyway am in the process of buying a new Zalman HSF.
Is it cool to keep the cpu on the motherboard until I get the new HSF (week or so)
or would it be safest to dismantle it and store the CPU in the box it came in?

thanks.

I'd feel confident enough to use the stock HSF until you get the Zalman. I mean, 3 out of 4 pegs should be enough, especially since the C2D is cool as it is.

haha, i dont think he planned on using it, just storing the cpu for now. anyhow, yes, the mobo should be fine for storing it for a week, lol.

Just cut of the plastic pegs and replace with machine screws and lots of nylon washers. What I did with the heat sink on my 550 works wonderfully. But i wouldn't use it with only 3 of 4 pegs .

Yeah the problem is that it wont work, Once I powered the system up, it worked for 2-3 seconds then just powered off.
I was scratching my head until I finally tried popping of the HSF and realized that one of the legs wasnt seating properly and wasnt making contact with the proc.
