Where could I find a guide or where could you send me that I can basically do this:
Take PC I have and turn it into a storage server that I can send through on my network or say send info to it to save from across the web from school?

I'm guessing only thing I might be able to do is a ftp but is there anything else?
 
well, you could also turn it into a Direct Connect (DC) server and just use a DC client to get the information.

how to set that up, or a FTP, i have no idea there.
 
I used dyndns.com and filezilla. Make sure port is open. (works great with linksys router)
 
You can do it in a lot of ways. You basically need to figure out what storage requirements you have and how you want to accomplish it. What other uses you want the server to have and what operating system you plan to run. Personally, I'd suggest Windows because doing things in linux is like pulling teeth. You can use Hamachi to connect securely to your machine. There is plenty of documentation online that gives you an idea of how to create shares on your machine.
 
Ftp is easy over anything (but use sftp! ftp is inherently insecure); smb or cifs will work okay over Hamachi. That'd give you a "network drive" in My Computer. A little more integrated than ftp, and not all that much more work.
