Because I have one in my kids comp, and my current system is running an old Antec 430Watt. (20 pin connector)

I was wondering if I would be better off using the Dynapower one with 24 pins, since I am getting an X2 4400+ to go with a Asus A8N premium and 7800GTX 512.

I will be buying an FSP 600, or a SilverStone Zeus PS in a week or so, I was just wondering if using the Award would be ok till then. I am asuming that the old Antec probably would cause issues, being of the 20 pin spec. Thanks

The heatsink with the big holes and two pieces of metal stuck together looks like one from a TigerDirect 300-400W Ultra that the company used as an example of what a "quality" PSU looked like inside.
 
I've got a five year old Ultra 300W here somewhere, and although the housing looks similar, the heatsinks don't have holes drilled in them like that. They're the regular finned heatsinks we typically see.

Jerukoth, there's a UL numver underneath that RU logo on the label. Can you read what that number is?
 
Wow! How old is that? I've never seen a Wintech with drill heatsinks like that.

I thought the housing was familiar, but didn't recognize the heatsink.

I guess no UL is needed. A Wintech it is. ;)

What's scary is the one in Wolf's link is a mere 350W. The one in the OP's link is a 450!?!?! Talk about exaggerated claims!!!! I think I'll stick with the 350W rating on that one. ;)
 
Yeah. They use the same PCB's over and over again. I've seen 500's that say WIN-400 and I've seen 300's that also say WIN-400 and all of the components were laid out identically, but smaller in size. :eek:
 
So, I should use the Antec 430 TruePower until the FSP or Silverstone or whatever I buy arrives? :)



I have a 20 to 24 pin converter. Perhaps I'll just hook it to the Antec for now, and keep the other crappy PS in my kids computer, it's been working there for about a year now.
 
Yeah. It's not as crappy as I had initially thought, but it's still seriously overrated and underpowered for anything today. I'm surprised they even slapped an ATX12V compliance on it. :D
 
Here's the picture that TigerDirect.com used to display to compare their 300W Ultra to a typical 300W (I guess TigerDirect thinks that "typical" means "Powmax" or "Deer"). Are the heatsinks for the high and low voltage sides touching one another in the Ultra, and isn't that considered bad safety design?

R&D probably didn't even have a semi-finished product when marketing whipped that up.
