Maybe someone with alot of HD knowledge can help me? I installed Windows XP yesturday (without SP2 built in) and I got this message.

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you have seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screan appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk, defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive config and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

check code 0x24 is NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM, and is documented on MSDN.

What happened when you rebooted and let CHKDSK run?

When I rebooted I got this message.

NTLDR is missing
Press Ctrlalt delete to restart.

I just used another Windows XP Home with SP2 and I got past the fragment and now it stopped at this part of the Copying files.

Either bad harddrive or faulty ram (or bad timings). Happened to me and I used to get an array of STOP BSODs and it used to fault on all sortsa files. Check ram first then harddrives.

Or a flakey cable, or a misconfugred drive.

Might want to swap the HDD cable real quick just to rule that out also.

Swapped the cable and cleared the CMOS. Only other thing I can think of is bad hd?

You can try running the manufacturers diagnostic software (from their site). That should confirm the status of the drive.

Sounds like a dead drive to me
