Anyone know which has better cooling, a stock e6300 copper base HSF or e8400 aluminum base HSF? I'm at work right now so can't check myself. I assume copper base e6300 but just curious if anyone knows off the top of their heads.

copper is better.

way it works is

copper pulls heat away faster but holds it longer

Aluminum pulls heat away slower, but lefts go of it faster.

having a copper base w/ aluminum fins, is the best solution for heat removal IMO.

Wrong. This is a misconception. Copper is a better thermal convector than aluminum in addition to being a better conductor. Aluminum has no benefits over copper as a thermal transfer device.

You are correct about the copper-cored heatsink being better than the aluminum one though.

What is true? Seems pretty interesting. Would be good to know if I decide to buy a cpu cooler.

What is true is that copper is a better material for heatsinks than aluminum, in every way. The only reason that many heatsinks use aluminum for fins instead is because it's much cheaper and much lighter than copper is.

Yeah always go for the copper assuming the surface area of both are the same. Just not for the false reasons given earlier. :O
