stock voltage..

so i've been told cpu-z doesn't give you your stock voltage correctly.. is that true?
cause if its not.. how the hell do i get it? my bios won't tell me. :(
 
using a multimeter device.
actually i am interested in this as well, how accurate is the voltage reading in BIOS and in windows?
 
when you set voltage in bios to 1.4 (stock for venice) its not really 1.4 but rather like 1.360 which is, i believe, due to voltage flucuation(sp?), on the psu rails.

i think using programs like cpu-z, ite guardian gives a pretty accurate rating.
 
k.. and does anyone know if clockgen's VID readings and settings work? someone told me it doesn't.

It isnt always 1.36 despite the 1.4 setting in BIOS. First of all, the new Rev E chips use a variable voltage range from 1.3V to 1.4V, which makes it easier for AMD to produce cores easier based on demand, regardless of yields.
Secundus, the voltage fluctuations that you mention can sometimes be attributed to the resistor ICs on the actual motherboard, and can go either _over_, or _under_, depending on how stringent/lax they are in their operation. If you have a high quality powersupply with a high amperage on it's power rails, you're more likely to overvolt than under. If you have a cheap-ass mofo power supply that you got when you inherited your kid brother's case from before Y2K, then you're more likely to get an undervolt.
 
yea my bad, it isnt really 1.360 but cpu-z seems to like to do some rounding and other weird crap. for example 1.5 * 1.10 and 1.475 * 1.13 will report the same thing when in actuality it doesnt.
 
Yeah, you're right. I was just mentioning that it can't all be blamed on CPU-Z, as easy as it would be....
The only way to reliably test your voltage is to use a multimeter. A working multimeter..... ;)
