Stock HSF glued on

Hey guys

I just recieved my Zalman 7000bALCU, and i went to remove the old stock one and the thing is glued on to the proc by the thermal pad! I didnt want to try just ripping it out.

Does anybody know any tips or ways of getting it off, it stuck on there pretty good

Have you tried turning the computer on for a while to let the CPU and HS heat up a bit softening the thermal pad?

I always do this whenever I'm going to remove my HSF just as a precaution.

[edit] giving the heatsink a slight twist before pulling it off can also help break the seal.
 
really??? i pop the CPu out with a flat headed screwdriver over my bed
 
If running under hard load won't release it use a hair dryer to do the job, works great ;)

If it really is glued, unclipping then twisting the hsf should work.
 
I tried popping it out with a screw driver and all the pins fell out!!!! No im just kidding, it probably woulda been easier to let the computer run for a while but i didnt know that. I just used some pliers to manuever the clips off and then i had to twist and pull. I did the twist thing for a while until finally it let go. Half the damn thermal pad was still on the proc after i got it off. Cleaned it all off with some 70% isopropyll.

Ive learned that wut ever ur doing with computers getting mad will only screw u more in the end.

I remembered I thought i broke my processor when I ripped it out of the socket. It was a ver nerveracking 2 days.

Still works :)

my cpu was stuck to my HS on my old pc, and i tried the twist and pull thing and it didnt work, i ended up ripping the CPU out of the socket while it was stuck to the HS and while the socket was still in lock position. then i had to use a flat head screwdriver and popped it out.:eek:

Yeah the hair dryer trick is a nice one. Heat guns work well also. As for static electricity, I don't see how that would create any static. Also, about the alchohol wipes, I would reccomend getting some MG Chemicals wipes, they work very vell, and are soaked with 99.99something % alchohol on lint free wipes. I think retail price on those wipes is like 40 cents a pop, which is well worth it for the quality/ease of use.
