sticky substance - 6950

I just recently purchased a sapphire 6950. I noticed on the red cooler/fan, there is a clear sticky substance on top at the edge of the fan, right outside the sapphire sticker.This is the second card that had this same substance. I returned the first card because I thought it was some sort of defect or a used card. But now the second card has this same small spot of this sticky substance. Is this normal?? I'm about to return the card, but before I did I just wanted to check if this sticky substance is normal as its the second card to have this. Also I saw what looks like fingerprints on the sapphire sticker on the cooler. I'm going to assume that is not normal. Please advise. Thanks
 
Well what you could do is get the finger print and then run it through and see who it is that would be fun

But honestly if the sticky stuff comes off just get it off and forget about it no point in returning a card for anything cosmetic.
 
What does the substance smell like? Clams? Scallops? Shrimp? Notice any curly hairs on the card?
 
Yeah, I was thinking about getting out my CSI kit and check for DNA, then run it through Codis.. lol...

Seriously, I guess it just irk me that my new video card , may not be so new. I paid a lot for it, so I just want to make sure I'm getting something new and not someone's return. The sticky stuff being on both cards just had me wondering if this is normal. So I just wanted to see if others may have had a similar experience with these video cards.

LOL.. No, no curly hairs and I didn't smell it. Whatever it is, it seems to be the same stuff on both cards.
 
Yeah the chance of getting the same substance on the same spot of two cards sealed in boxes from the same manufacturer and having them be from random users opening the box and playing with the card and returning them sealed without getting any dust on them is highly unlikely.

I posted some pics.. as you can see its not a lot of that substance on the card, but I just found it weird that both card had the same thing. Any insight as to what that can be? I think you can see some fingerprints as well from the pics
 
Perhaps.. but I thought the process was automated.. so I just find it odd that two cards from different times of production have the same substance on them.. and if this is common then there should be more people out there with the same experience
 
Was the sticky substance there when you took it out of the box? Could you have gotten it on there after beholding the awesomeness that is AMD Cayman? :p
 
Taste it ? Hell, some guy packing the card probably spooged on it.

Lol.. I guess I could be a little OCD:D

The point of the thread was to find out what it was and if this was normal seeing I received two cards like this... If it's not normal, what could be the possible causes.. I was hoping to hear people who had similar experience, then I would figure its normal and move on... but that has not been the case

It didn't help that the seal on the outside of the box seemed as if someone had opened it and re-sealed it. I thought that it could have been due to shipping, but when I opened it and saw these other things (sticky substance, fingerprints), then it made me wonder if these cards had been previously opened/used. If the seal was in perfect condition then my only assumption would have been these other things were due to the factory/production. Then I probly wouldnt' even had started this thread.
 
Both cards have it? Maybe you got the same, perfectly-working card back from the RMA?
 
No.. I took pics of the serial numbers of the first card to make sure I would know if I ever received it again. Plus the second card had already shipped before me returning the first card.
