Stick with IC7-G?

Right now I've got a 2.4C in my machine running on an Abit IC7-G. I've been considering buying the 3.4EE - would it be fine for me to keep the IC7-G, or would I need to upgrade this as well?

unless you want HT... id say go with a fx-53 :) feel free to slap me

Damned AMDers, you're like Jehovas Witnesses, always trying to convert others! :p

In regards the original question, the IC7-G has supported the P4EE since BIOS version 18. So it should work just fine as long as your BIOS is ver 18 or better. :)

Check the sig. :D The 3.4EE works like a charm with the Abit IC7-G. You might want to consider purchasing a better heat sink and fan as this bad boy cranks out some serious heat.

damn dude, where you getting the money for a extreme edition? :D

I'd suggest just seeing how far you can get your 2.4c to, especially since you have the ic7-g right now, 3.4EE's are running for alil over 1k$

considering you could build a whole new computer with the price of that one processor, i don't think i would ever splurge on something like that

but, if money isn't really an important factor for your purchase i guess it would make sense seeing as its the top intel offering right now

I agree. The 2.4C isn't a slouch either, and you're pretty likely to be able to OC it to at least 3GHz, if not over that. 1k for a CPU is kinda steep...

If you do decide to get a P4 3.4EE, then definetely stick with the IC7-G. I have a 3.2EE and both a 2 months old Asus P4C800E Dlx and my 1 year old IC7-G. The IC7-G handles the EE much better, much more stable Vcore voltages when heavily overclocked, and it clocks a bit higher as well. The P4C800E isn't too bad either though, I'm currently using it manily because it's much easier to do a Vdimm voltmod on it (which I've done).

I'm looking for one of the newer stepping 3.4EE's myself, just to see what I can get out of my current platform. If Intel doesn't start really shaping up I'll probably be going FX pretty soon (as soon as the s. 939 mainboards have matured)

Et tu Lars?

Haha, I know what ya mean buddy. Egg-fryingly hot CPUs, anti-overclocker measures and a pipeline getting so long (now 31+ stages, up from Northwood's 20) that the instructions coming out the other end have little white beards. Intel keep on increasing that pipeline length and covering the performance hit with new SSE instruction sets, architectural improvements and bigger L2 caches. Only problem is, it doesn't work, Prescott performance seems clock-for-clock worse than Northwood. CPUs should become more advanced over time, we shouldn't be going backwards.

If I trusted an AMD-platform chipset then I would probably have already switched. :(

Yes I'm afraid, me too....

That's exactly how I feel.
I'm really happy with the 2.4C and the IC7-G (best Pentium motherboard I've owned to date). In comparison, I was happy with my previous Abit NF7-S and Barton 2500+.

If Abit comes out with a 939 motherboard that gets rave reviews... I may be get an FX53 and skip out the 3.4EE

...no kidding. I may bronze that and frame it....

May move my sigged system to the oldest kid this summer. I've got a 3.0E at home on the shelf, and the IC7 is currently the top of my list.
