Stereo -> Card = good?

Here's the deal :

Harmon Kardon PM635 Amp hooked up with a RCA to male stereo plug converter, going in to the sound card.

Hooked up to the amp are some fairly decent (and large) yamaha studio speakers.

I'm wondering if it's a good idea to hook up my stereo amp to the card, or should i just run speakers out of the card? I typically use the stereo setup, and am wondering if it's been the cause of many headaches i've had w/ this SB Live.

I'm also considering purchasing another card, any suggestions?
 
If you're going to go with 2 channel stereo from a reciever- pick up an M-Audio audiophile 24/96

You can run a set of "rca cables" directly from the card right into your reciever. Sound is leagues better than your SB live and the drivers are bulletproof. You can snag one for around $95

Great card and it would work perfectly with your setup. Also, you get a set of rca inputs if you ever decide to get into recording/audio transfering.
 
What's your budget? A SBlive is a crappy card. For stereo only, the Chaintech AV-710 gives good bang/buck with its high-res two-channel mode. If you have good amounts of cash to allocate, you would likely be better served putting it towards better speakers than on an high-end soundcard.
 
or he could use a mini plug -> coax adapter from radio shack and feed the signal digitally to his reciever.
