step-by-step site to build computer?

My friend is going to build a computer for the first time, but doesn't know how. He was going to pay CompUSA to build it at 30 bucks a PART, and i said hell no! He is an internet friend, so i cant really go over to him, hes far away.

So does anyone know of a good step-by-step website that has how to build a computer with pictures? I am building mine this week and told him I can setup my webcam in different poses, but it wont be the same.

If anyone can help with some sites, thanks a lot!

It will be an AMD 3000+ 64 processor

It's not necessary. It's usually for a direct audio connection from your optical drive to your sound card or motherboard. It isn't needed.

Oh, and, a 'chord' is a music term. You mean to say 'cord.'
 
Those cords are outdated. Basically, you don't need it. You can get sound from CDs and DVDs by enabling digital audio under the properties for your drive, which actually is usually on by default.

So don't worry about it. :)
 
Tell him to pick up an issue of MaximumPC. Every time I see it on the magazine stand, the cover story is always something like "You can build your own PC! Here's how!". I think they also have a book out.
 
woah! I never knew that there are people out there who can't figure out how to built a computer! :eek: :eek: . thats scary. ITs common sence, the connectors are all different, just don't put anything where it doesn't fit, thats my only rule :p

And it's common sense that tells you how to handle a processor? And it's common sense that tells you about grounding yourself? Commen sense to some of us, yeah, but it's news to others who don't have any experience of this type at all.

C'mon, you can't tell me that you didn't feel at least a little bit apprehensive when you took off the housing of your first computer and saw all these circuit boards and cords? I was shaking like a leaf thinking I'd screw something up.

Some people just want to be prepared. Don't chastise them for that.
 
I was kindof scared of breaking some stuff when I stuck mine together too. I have a book called "Building the perfect PC" or something like that. I was a great place to start because they build 5 diffrent kinds. They discuss what components they got, why they got them, and what other parts they recommend. That got me into seeing the basics. Then I hit newegg, zipzoomfly, pricegrabber.com, and of course, the Hardforum for everything else. This forum is an awsome source, almost all the instruction you need.
 
lol! I never ground myself (on purpose anyways) and my computer works fine
