Steelseries Ikari

Last week the cord has broken, as the mouse turned itself off when i moved the cord.
That's exactly what happened to mine. Now I twisted my cord quite a bit, but then again, my MX518 went through hell for 4 years and that still worked. How's your replacement going?

I just tested my Ikari laser for negative acceleration and it has it. :( Such a shame this mouse has the best shape ever. Back to the DeathAdder. I'm going to try the Ikari Optical at some point when I get my money back.

EDIT: I went back to the DA and sucked terribly... guess I'll deal with the negative acceleration. The mouse must be so natural in my hand that it rocks more than the better sensor. :p For whatever reason get faster reaction times with the Ikari's buttons as well. (236ms vs. 300ms)

That's a bold statement you made. Why did you not like about the death adder's shape?

Since I've heard so much about this mouse, I'll give it a try too.

It is a little too big for my hand. The base of my thumb feels like it is being pushed away.Plus the sides are glossy so after some intense gaming the sweat makes it harder to pick it up.

I tested my Ikari for NA and found it is an issue.... but not really too bad. It isn't like I still don't love the mouse....

Is there anyway to counter/lessen negative acceleration? Is it worse at higher or lower CPI settings?

Thanks!

Better at high CPI settings because you move the mouse less. The faster you have to physically move the mouse the more likely you are to encounter negative acceleration. If you are a low sensitivity player this is not an option.

...Ikari laser...this mouse has the best shape ever.
It's as if the mouse disappears from your hand as you use it. The DA has more of a bump in the middle of my palm and the glossy sides always got really sweaty. That said, the sensor kicks ass.

As for the Ikari, I use 1100 CPI and knock the slider all the way to the left in COD4 wo/ issue. Perhaps I'm not as demanding as Bop though.

I know my death adder never fails to deliver when I make sweeping movements. Neither does it have quirkiness when I snipe. In short, it has a great sensor.

As for da's shape, I have pretty large hands and the bump is perfect for me.

lol! Never experienced that when I sniped. I am using firmware 1.25 driver 1.08.

I got the Ikari Optical to try out. I could not get negative acceleration to kick in. The surface is shiny but it does not have that glossy sweaty feel, your hand almost sticks to it. Very nice feel.

However... it does have the same issue that the DA has with the movement straightening.

I may go back to the laser if I find it interferes with my aiming. The laser has less negative acceleration than an IME 3.0 at 125hz so I cannot complain.(Cannot increase USB polling for IME 3.0 in Vista 64 without removing some windows updates and running in test mode :( )

I've been using a Logitech MX Revolution for several months and I have to say, it's the best mouse I've ever used. I never imagined I'd like a wireless mouse this much, but its battery holds out for three days of heavy use at least, and it charges in the time it takes me to go out for lunch.

I have the Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0 and I really don't see how there could be a better mouse. I have never tried an Ikari, but I have heard great things about it. I would like to try it out someday.

After a long gameplay session my ringer finger got really sore. When I snipe I tend to clench the mouse tighter. I may have to use the DA after all. : / I hope Razer releases a firmware fix for the straightening. Then it will be better than the IME 3.0 in every way... well except for the glossiness.

I've been using a Logitech MX Revolution...
I have the bluetooth version (MX 5500) and the lag drives me insane. I wonder if that's a BT vs RF thing tho. My Ikari needs to get back and fast! That said, it's a great desktop mouse w/ the super smooth wheel and the one touch search features.

It's been years since I've used that mouse, but I remember thinking the exact same thing. If anything, the Ikari's also got a large footprint to rest your hand and palm around on.

As for the straightening issue, there's a feature called Freemove in the SS drivers. I never really messed with it, but here's a picture from Techgage's review: Click me. One of the reviews on this mouse did take a more thorough look @ the feature, I just can't remember which.

I wish I'd gone to the Ikari instead of the Intellimouse 3.0. This thing feels like it cost about 10p to make.

I think the lag is a bluetooth thing. I've never been much impressed by BT for interface devices, and use it only when absolutely necessary. My MXR is as responsive as the MX500 it replaced, with much better resolution. I've also NEVER had a problem with negative acceleration.

Anyone with the Ikari Laser mouse have any issues with the software? I just got it and cannot seem to get any profiles to load to the mouse. I click the "apply to mouse" button, but it never changes from the default profile. I have Vista 64, btw. Is there something I am missing???

I tried my bro's RF and it's no better. I love the mouse for it's wheel and comfort, but it's just not precise or quick enough for me. :(

As an update I sent my mouse in on the 31st and got it back on the 7th. They sent a brand new package, so hopefully this one will last a bit longer. :p

verncat05: I'm pretty miffed bud. Dead Space doesn't wanna see the thumb buttons and the software won't let me bind "f" and "r". Clicking apply to mouse does nothing for changing the sensitivity settings either. I tried compatibility mode, but no luck. Did you ever find a fix?

Well this new mouse also has the issue w/ activating the top buttons when brought down hard. I notice this many @ LAN's when competition is fierce. If I'm shot, the mouse gets a slap down on the mat from about 45 degrees up and bam, there goes a grenade from the middle mouse button. :(

Also, the feet have started scraping across the pad. The feeling's akin to a piece of dirt/rock stuck to the pads. Except, there's nothing on there! I'll wipe it clean w/ my hand furiously, but nothing. Does anyone else experience that? Sometimes it's completely random, but overall it lacks the smooth feeling from the get go.

I wanna love this mouse so much because of the way it fits my hand, the light weight, tracking, and lack of sweat. But the damn thing's so friggin' fragile, ugh.

I'm using the speed side of the exactmat.

Epic bump from the undead.

How is the Steelseries Ikari laser vs Logitech G9?

Quick answer from the alive and kickin'!

I picked up the G9 from Fry's and tore open the box! I couldn't wait to use this newfangled mouse that looks like something from the future! I wrapped my paws around the mouse and began to windows surf. Suddenly I noticed the ass of my palm being abused and left to drag around on the pad! Where was the rest of this mouse?

Moral of the story, don't buy a mouse wo/ an ass.

The Ikari's got a nice svelte ass. It's there, but doesn't get in the way like the Deathadder or thrash around like the Sidewinder. There are times when I'll be done using the mouse, like starting up a tv episode or something when I completely forget to take my hand off the mouse for about 5 minutes. I realize it's there, but it's so comfortable, I just leave it there. This thing absolutely disappears under your hand. Combined w/ the Logitech Illuminated keyboard and a cold mat like the eXactMat, you'll be in input heaven.

I gotta agree.... it's one nice-ass-mouse! :D

Seriously, the most comfortable mouse I've ever used....
