Steam

Thanx for suggesting "Speedtest.net".
It tested my Comcast DSL at "Download 1.44Mb/s ... Upload 0.34Mb/s ... 800Mb Movie: 74min."
This tells me if I buy FO/Vegas at Steam ($49) it'll be maybe 11-hr download.
So I'll buy a Boxed copy (has DVD disk) at BestBuy store ($49) & activate it at Steam.

Guys, a 'big-thanks' to all for filling this 'Steam' thread with good info, tips, advice.
It shouldn't be allowed to drop outta sight.
Moderators will you please consider giving it a 'sticky'?

Another great (or shitty?) thing about Steam is that you will buy games that you wouldn't otherwise buy because they are on sale for $5-10.

yep. usually it takes a sale like that to rip me off the games i have already.

Usage of steam is great if you don't care about having a physical box and other goodies. I've had steam for a long time and haven't used it to directly purchase any games in the last i dunno 8?9?10 how many years has steam been around? All I remember is getting offers from people to purchase my steamid. I've yet to purchase anything from the steam website.. but I think initially at that point it wasn't a big digital store like it is now. I would just buy games like hl2 ,and link them to steam.

Though the one post saying you can buy 400$ worth of games for 50$ during christmas has me tempted. Since I just got stalker for 99cents from the windows sale I may look into buying off steam soon. That and getting shafted by a 2nd hand sale of BCB2, and finding out the game was linked to steam was annoying.

Steam's been officially since late 2003 I believe... so it's been 7 years. Steam user base as well as games offered grew by astronomical percentages in recent years.

I don't think BFBC2 is linked to steam at all (as in, it's not a steamworks game). My roommate has the EA downloaded version and I have the steam version. His game is in no way tied to steam. That said, you should always do a quick google of second hand PC games to see if they have some sort of DRM tied to it that makes it worthless on resale. AFAIK BFBC2 will have different DRM based on where it was originally bought (the steam version uses steam as DRM - but buying a 'second hand' steam game makes no sense at all, and the B&M/EADM version has different DRM).

It doesn't hurt to check out the deals (unless you're an impulse buyer I guess) over Christmas. The packs that come with like 20 games for $50 are pretty insane.
