Steam Machine Tear Down

I was a little shocked it had an Nvidia Geforce in it, everything I read said they were going to use ATI/AMD. Hmmm. And I can't tell what kind of card it is (and the dude doesn't say), but that standard heatsink/fan could be a GTX 760 or up.

I love the SFF case, it is really well laid out for something that can accomodate a monster vid card like that.

No they don't have to, but as he said they probably will.

I beta tested the first drobo NAS box... They let us keep them and even offered a discount on a retail version if we traded it in. It was a beta after all and changed for retail.

What are they going to do with a used beta version... clean it up with 409 re-box it and send it out as a new retail product?

Yep, lol,
I think the only reason they say they can take them back is they are probably trying to make sure you use it. They only sent 300 out so if some guy received a titan and was just like haha, going to ebay it, they could call him in.

nVidia was the first company to show interest in SteamOS and start work on their OpenGL drivers, even sending some of their own developers to work directly with Valve. The beta units ship with anything from 760s to Titans.

I'm all for games on unix. Windows gaming has been a big headache.

Just tested putting Linux Mint 16 x64 on a USB key and it runs so beautiful.

PS4 is working really well too running on variant of FreeBSD.

Care to elaborate? I have been playing games on Windows for a long, long time. There were a few headaches with Win2000 because of the new driver model, but damn I have been gaming flawlessly since.

yeah... maybe early years of directx?.

lol why do you guys entertain him he uses mint Linux he is obviously a Linux shill out of touch with reality. He just lists random Linux based whatever says they are all amazing.

A Steambox and a PS4, and I would be all set

While I understand many mainstream AAA title have yet to support Linux (probably never), I could play them on the PS4, while Steambox will do those PC exclusive/indie games like Wasteland 2, Torment etc
