Steam Controller Drops Touchscreen

That's why I bought one of these:

Plays everything up to the N64 and PSX pretty well. I'd love to have an updated version of this with a 4.3 or 4.5" screen and a current SOC.

That's not really a physical keyboard. It doesn't have letters and junk like quotation marks or an ampersand for those logograms are important to save characters in a text message.

Have you read any of the user feedback on the controller so far? The trackpads on the Steam controller provide haptic feedback and are supposedly fairly intuitive and powerful. The entire point of the controller is making games that are otherwise unplayable from your couch with a 360 controller, like Civ 5, Starcraft, etc usable as well as improving the FPS performance. Normal sticks work great for some games and I use a 360 controller on my PC regularly, but they are terribly inaccurate for anything that requires precision. Switching back to a thumbstick design would nullify the whole point of this controller.

All I've read is glassy eyed pie in the sky "Oh its so new and neat" crap spewing o ut of the mouths of people who at best are casual gamers and think games like farmville were good..nothing from actual gamers who use it for more than 5 minutes. Haptic feedback has yet to impress me in anything and I usually just end up turning it off out of irritation. It is about as irritating and useless as the rumble feature in controllers. Sorry if I don't find my controller vibrating like a dildo a more "realistic" experience.

It could suck, but keep in mind Dekoth just kinda doesn't like stuff.

I like stuff..lots of stuff in fact..just not pointless shit. I've had to put up with trackpads on laptops for 10+ years at this point. I've never used a single one that was worth a shit when it came to accuracy and response. So no, I don't like the idea of using a technology proven to be terribly inaccurate to replace a technology that at Worst is the same and at best still better.

Why anyone the Steam Controller features "just a trackpad" before having actually tried it is beyond me.

Because it IS a trackpad, or did you not bother reading about it? A Trackpad..is a Trackpad..is a Trackpad. It can't tell where your finger actually is..is limited to a 1:1 movement ratio making it horribly slow and 99% of the time they put this shitty texture on it that rubs your fingertips raw if you use it for more than 10 minutes.
