Stealthing a drive that flops open

I've got two cd-drives lying around, and although I've painted the one I'm using atm, I'd like to stealth it. The front panel doesn't slide open though, like the ones in all the reviews I've read. Instead in flops down as it opens. I'm not sure if there's a way to disable the motor doing this, or what to do to get it working. I was thinking about just trying anyway, but I think the bottom of the panel will get caught up inside the case as the faceplace is moved down.
Anyone have a good idea on how to fix this?

I'm assuming it sitll has a standard tray in it right?

wel, just take off teh faceplacte, remove the flopping door, and then replace the face sans the flopping door. Then you should be able to do the mod.
