What would cause a single user Windows 7 desktop PC to switch itself from a set static IPV4 address to DHCP without user input?

Maybe a system restore to an earlier point before the static assignment?

Also, if you need the IP to be static, why not simply create a DHCP reservation for the machine's MAC address?

well, that's what I'm going to do.. but curious as to why it would just change on it's own.

To my knowledge, a system restore wasn't performed on this particular setup .. and what would cause the network service to be lost .. and does windows just recreate it on its own then?

Plug and play baby!

I really hate how windows stuff sometimes just does stuff like this. Could be another application that's trying to control the network configuration.
