Starwind HA or Veaam CDP?

Hey guys,
I've been reading this forum for a while and the quality of the information has always been good so thought I'd throw a question out there myself :)

Basically I am looking at upgrading a basic Starwind free <-->iSCSI<-->ESXi 5 setup to a mutli virtualization host, multi SAN, multi switch setup for redundancy. I'm not too worried about failure as its incredibly rare - as long as I have a quick way of getting online.

I'm trying to decide whether Starwind HA is worth it or to just go with Veaam CDP. Veam SmartCDP seems to be able to provide up to 15 minute old snapshots and is a hell of a lot cheaper than Starwind HA which costs 3k for 1TB! Granted starwind HA means I wouldn't lose a single piece of data or have any downtime.

What do you guys reckon (or run yourself). Do you think Veam replication between 2 disparate SANs is good enough or is the price of Starwind HA worth it? If I didn't get HA with starwind then I wouldn't even need the CDP, free would suffice and I'd safe probably 5k at a minimum.

Thanks for the replies guys. We have about 50 VMs.

Yea I'm not too worried about the downtime associated with not having high availability, just really the data loss. To be honest if we replicated every 5 minutes I can't see a good value proposition in having high availability. I'm going to talk to Veaam and see what their take is on things and what their other customers are doing.

I had a look at SRM but can't see the advantage over Veaam?

both srm and veeam use the same esxi built-in backup related api so features are pretty much the same

it's all about infrastructure and usability what to use vmware tools or veeam
