Ok so we had a thread discussing the beta and I didn't notice one for the headstart or retail launch today. I haven't had a lot of time to play today but I did get to log in create my toon and do some of the tutorial missions. All went well for me no noticable lag and it looked pretty much like the open beta.

Retail launch for everyone else is Tuesday the 2nd. So thoughts for everyone who's been playing today in the headstart? Post em here guys. Let's see some screenies too and ill be sure to post some myself later on.

I am currently downloading the client now. I didn't have the time to play the beta or download the client.

I'm going to give this game a few months and check if its still around. I'm also waiting for Fermi for a new gaming rig so maybe then I will buy. That or when Steam lowers the price. I'm done paying full price for new games.

I loved the ship battles and such, but away missions were so repetitive and boring, seemed very scripted vs the open fun times on board the ship.

Fix up the away missions and I could definitely get into it. However, I can easily wait for that hehe.

Ya I played a bunch tonight and there's definetly some improvments from beta but the ground game can get repetitive at times. It really depends on the quest. Some that incorporate ground away mission suck while others are quite fun. All in all the starship combat is a win imo while ground can be hit or miss but the games just getting released and we know how they release mmo's these days so it's a work in progress. Meanwhile I'm having a good time with it for now.

Anyone know if theres going to be a free trial? I noticed there are guest passes that comes with the collectors edition so I'm assuming they will give out trials just like WoW. I'm huge fan of Star Trek space battles but not exactly ready to drop 50 bucks on something that might get old.

I think its bs that I cant play a joined trill till after the real launch. fuckin bs... that being said i made a betazid that gives less agro as my tac officer so thats pretty win.

Having a great time here. I made a (male) Vulcan Science Officer to be my first captain, and I'm trying to decide if my Liberated Borg should be Engineering or Tactical. I will be giving out my guest passes.

Well so last night there were multiple server crashes and d/c's for everyone. This had gotten a lot better in the last week of open beta yet now seems it's back and worse than ever. They have some serious hardware, network issues that need to be addressed asap.

I will definitely give this game some time too. As it stands the game sucks. If they fix it, I will try the trial when it comes out.

Well I don't know what you mean when you say "it sucks". What exactly sucks about it? Is it the general gameplay or the bugs or the server crashing/load times? What is your complaint? Just curious since I have a blast playing it when the server works properly, bugs aside.

I like the game and I plan on playing it casually for a while.
Ground combat used to seem real boring to me when I treated it like other mmos (stand in one spot and fight), but once you start moving around to flank enemies and dodging/rolling their attacks, it gets a little more interesting.

On a completely unrelated note, I just saw Star Trek (the new J.J. Abrams one) for the first time tonight, I thought it was great, and I don't consider myself a "trekkie". Can't wait for the next installment. (Is there supposed to be a next installment?)

This is a good and fun game, especially if you get into one of the larger guilds (aka fleets) :p. Luckily there are lots of RPers, so even on "one server to rule them all", you can enjoy having fun, while behaving as Starfleet officer. Though my ignore list grows daily with cretinous names and WoW crowd.

Any MMO is playable after the month, when free month ends, and kids go away to something new.

Space combat is much more fun then in Eve... at least you have to manouver your shiop, as parts of the ship you firing at have difference. And different shield sections drop seperately. It's more like Pirates of Burning Sea combat type, though in full 3d.

Now I'm just waiting for some Klingon PvE missions, as this is one bad thing... one of best race of ST Universe made only for PvP

I thought about buying the life-time subscription, but I think I'll just play for a month and see if I like it still after that. If I do I'll pay for it two months at a time or so. The Borg playable race just isn't temping enough to slap down $240. Honestly the only reason I'm even giving this MMO a chance is due to TOR not releasing this year.

I'm enjoying the game. There are improvements from the beta. They need to fix the server issues but i'm not too concerned. The servers are a catch 22. It sucks that they are going down but like WoW it shows you that there is popularity which if good for the life of the game. The hardest thing for me was getting back up to Lt. Commander. I hated having to play in my starter ship again.

Thats why I'm gonna wait until I get my copy in. Toss in my cdkey and stuff and get access to a replica of the old TOS Enterprise. Unless my pre-order code gets me access to that already....

My gamestop tos constitution class starship won't be accessable until tuesday yet I'm Lt.Commander 4 already so umm ya I have no use for it anymore, love it. :(

Ok so hit commander 2 last night and finally got my teir 3 heavy cruiser back that I had just gotten the day before open beta finished up and I have to say I freaking love it. Totally amazing ship and fun as hell. I'm really having fun again with sto since I'm not back to where I feel I haven't done all this before hehe. Server/loading instacing etc seems alot more stable to me and such as well. Good signs.

Just wanted to update the thread.

Just thought I would start a thread to see how everyone thought about it since it went live.

Ive been playing since beta, hit lvl 16, then stopped till the headstart.

Im currently commander lvl 2, im tactical with a heavy escort and man does it rock. way more shield regen abilies and alots of dps to go around. Higher level missions are a more fun, although ground pve has a shit ton of enimies compared to space. Since i can cloak I end up running past everything and clicking th eobjective and moving on with the mission instead of hack and slashing my way through 100's of npcs...

Ground controls need some work, but I do enjoy the ground pvp more then the space.
just need 2 or 3 good people and you can rock the other side pretty hard.

Ground chat with npcs is extremely lame and pointless, the chat boxes and chat text is too small for me to consider reading /careing about it. plus i can generally figure it out as I do the quest lol.

Tip: best way to level is sector patrols (the 3 wave missions) where you just switch intances when its done. my actual playtime over the last week or so is about 23 hours so that ist bad.

I didn't know cloaking was possible on the ground. What equipment does that?

Also, my thoughts on Star Trek online:

its a stealth module. its a tactical only kit you can get.

cloak for 15 secs, with a 15 sec cooldown after. very handy, in pvp too.

my character is betazoid so i can see cloaked peopel pretty easy its funny as hell when i own them and they run by and noone else can see them.

Being out of work atm, and not getting into the beta at any stage, I couldn't risk spending what little money I have on a preorder for this one.

I would love to try it out if they do a trial or if people are generous enough to give out codes, but unemployment keeps me from spending too much right now on things that I don't "know" will be worth it.

Plus I need to get my main PC fixed somehow......sigh.

Thats okay, Lim. I, and several others who bought the Collector's Edition (and those with Lifetime Subscriptions) will be given buddy keys. I''ll be giving mine away soon once I get a few out to RL friends who are interested.

Not popular news judging by that reader feedback.

Ya pulling that micro-transaction bullshit pisses me off in a subscription based game the day after you launch the BRAND new game for 50 bucks pisses me off. I'm not a fan of mico transaction( nickle and dime) games as it is but this is a kick in the teeth imo. 50 bucks and 15 a month and they pull that crap the day after launch when there's still a shit ton for them to do? Not cool at all. I like the game but this just pisses me off. /sigh:mad:

Its not like it was a surprise. It was common knowledge they were going to have micro-transactions. Even their other game, Champions Online, has micros.

They didn't say 2 days after launch they would be charging for 2 playable races that should have been included with the 50 dollar purchase. Unless you like paying extra for crap you shouldn't have too?

I tried out the beta/headstart and went and got a lifetime sub. As a long time trekkie, I found it to be enjoyable and fun.

With champions online, they offered lifetime subscriptions as well...

And then promised lots of new content was coming

It never came for years. When it did finally come out, guess what? You had to pay extra for it.

So far I am really enjoying this game. I do wish there was a better manual. I'll probably figure out everything eventually. Maybe playing WOW for so long has made me stupid.

I'm still playing and having a good time with It. In a galaxy class ship rank captain 5. Game is fun but as I continue to play and level up I can't help but wish they would have gone with a different dev house. Cryptic is just such a cheese/cut corner group, I just can't describe it any vother way. Imo if the game us cool now it could have been so much more with a quality drveloper.

im rocking at a captain 6th grade. tac officer with a defiant class. extremly sweet little ship (little? lol) its funny as hell being beside galaxy sized ships and easily out damaging the 10x bigger ship.
