Alright, this completely stumps me. I had my computer all hooked to the monitor, etc. I took it off and plugged in my old man's computer so I could test out the 3000+ I just put in it. Worked like a beauty. I take it out and plug mine in, and no post. wtfbbq... so I tooled around with stuff to make sure nothing for loosened or moved around. Tried it again, got a post- cept it stalls in BIOS. I cant seem to get any further than that, and its 100% random as far as I can tell.

Corsair 512 PC3200 ValueRam (ugh - damn university!)

WD 80gb 7200
LiteOn DVD-RW etc
LG DVD/CD-RW etc
Creative Audigy 2
Linksys wireless card

The ram has caused me problems before, but I tried two other 512 sticks, 1 Corsair and one some cheap generic junk..

This is ridiculous - some of you may have seen my earlier posting problems with the K8V SE. Do I have a curse or something?

I've checked for loose wires, for grounds, shorts, all that jazz. It posts, but thats as far as she goes. I've searched the forum, done all the tricks like pressing on the bios chip. I am out of ideas.
 
Where does it hang.. During mem test.. Drive Check.. Hardware check? Have you tried resetting the bios? Have you pulled the power and CRV2 Battery? Are your IDE cables firmyl seated and inserted in the proper direction? Unhook your hard drives power.. Does it post then? By random do you mean its sometimes able to start? Do you have some type of boot debugger like the MSI D bracket? Does that give you any clues? Do you hear any chirping from the internal speaker? You said you switched out cpus.. Are you sure you properly seated the old one back in? I once had a cpu go bad on me during a change out, I use MSI boards and the D bracket clued me in right away, but it would just hang at post otherwise.
 
Ok to clarify some (my bad there). I did not change the CPU in my computer, but my father's. His works great, and I did nothing to my computer except unplug and plug it back in. Was about an hour between when I took it off and put it back. This is part of my flabbergastedness. By random I meant there seems to be no rhyme or reason for this to happen, as far as I can tell. I've double (triple even) checked all the wiring, every cable, grounds, everything. I cant find anything. Lastly it hangs after it detects the CPU and RAM on the very first screen. So it does get that far, but thats all.

Fake edit:

It only gets to post with the generic ram, it will not post with any of my Corsair sticks. The Corsair ram however is perfectly fine, as I just put it into my father's computer and voila, I am speaking to you now. The generic ram also works fine, as it used to sit in my father's computer. Sounds to me like the motherboard is having issues here, which would be two in the span of 3 months. I tried the CMOS et all too. I am now having suspicions that my PSU is killing things.. when my last mobo went it took one of my hard drives with it. It looks eerily similar - wont detect my HD when it did get that far once, and otherwise wont post with ram it used to use.

Does that make any sense to somebody?
 
so it freezes right before checking the IDE drives?

completely unplug the IDE cables from the mobo and boot up. See if it will go any further in the bootup, and possibly check the IDE to see if anything is there (which it wont find anything)
 
Hehe it made itself abundantly clear to me. I was checking the IDE stuff.. I tried a new cable, all that jazz. Unplugging the HD got me further along the boot, so I decided to check it out in another comp just to make sure. I took it out and plugged it into my father's computer to see if it would boot in there. When I turned it all on - POOF, smoke, yummy acrid smell.. Ze harddrive, she is dead. I dont have another HD to try in my comp but I'll pick one up today or tomorrow.

Thanks for the help guys, that was the last thing I had left to try. I still think its odd how it wouldnt post with any of my Corsair ram, but at least I know my board is still good. Whats lame however is the fact that in the past 6 months 2 Western Digital HDs have died on me. They can go to hell! Seagate forever! Or somebody else!
