STALKER rant

Well technically unless you are serving/have served in the military you probably haven't actually shot a real M16 or Ak47 since full auto weapons haven't been available to the public since 1986. Unless you are one of the lucky few who either bought one before that date, or have $30,000 to spend. Or you bought an illegal trigger job and should be in hiding from the ATF!!:D

Wrench: What Para do you have? I love my P15 LTC, I use it for carry.

Aren't there places in Las Vegas and the like that lets you shoot off some exotic guns? I remember my friend showing me the paper target he used for when he fired a SAW.

Yes, there is. There is also a specialty gun club about a block from my work that also rents machine guns. In fact you can rent a Humvee with a M60 mounted. You are correct there.

I believe the federal ban on assault weapons expired in 2004.

As of the Firearm Owners Protection Act (May 19, 1986) stated that any full auto manufactured after that date could not be purchased or transfered to a civilian. However if you already had one registered to you by the NFA prior to that date you were grandfathered in.

The Assault weapon ban is different in that it banned weapons that had so called assault features. Such as a semi automatic rifle with more than a 10 round detachable magazine, bayonet lug, collapsing/folding stock etc. That ban was sunsetted in 2004 as you stated, however it had nothing to do with automatic weapons which were already banned in 1986 (which has no sunset clause). However certain states, such as Calfiornia, New York, New Jersey have their own state laws that continue the rules of the the Assault Weapon ban.

There is a case currently in the Supreme Court that will decide whether the 2nd amendment applies to us as individuals or to the state in the form of the military. Depending on how that goes it may repeal all of the bans from 1934 to the present.

Let's hope so. :(

You SHOULD REALLY get the patch. At least the 1.04... it adds the Exoskeleton armor as an item at the 100 RAD Bar :) (Its only 200,000 RU :) )

The game actually never crashed on me, but the HDD load slowdown did nag me for awhile. But nothing compares to going into the catacombs to be assaulted by Poltergeists and Pyros and Snorks.

I'm really sorry you cant handle the game. You're missing out.

STALKER already blows away Crysis in the indoor environments and looks like Clear Sky will have better outdoor graphics and effects than Crysis. If Clear Sky runs much better than Crysis then surely the Crytek engine will be considered an unoptimized pos.

QFT, period.

I never got very far in the original Shadow of Chernobyl, as I dove into the Oblivion Lost mod quite quickly. Quite a variety of modifications out there that surely enhance the STALKER experience, all glitches which I had found common aside.

well I finally finished it. what a horrible ending but maybe I got the crappy one. :(

now its time time to go play around with some mods. :)

First you made a giant assumption that I am an American. Not everyone that speaks english is an American.

Who in the right mind shoots a m16 in full auto. Two there are many derrivatives of the m16 and if I used the real designation for this m16 you wouldn't know what it is. Ak47 is the most common weapon on earth and I am well travelled.

Uhm I gave you the model of the Para ord. They no longer manufacture them. Plus since then they have been bough by colt.. The closest designation I could find is the 1445 LTD. I also had a .40 s&w Para ord 1640ltd

Okay, how many other countries allows for civilians to legally own full automatic weapons? Thats the probability that they are posting on here, its a logical guess a civilian with a full auto would be in America.

Just because you own a pistol doesn't make it your carry weapon, but I could have phrased it better. Para was not purchased by Colt, they remain seperately owned in Canada.

Honestly, I have never had any real trouble with that game, in fact, I really liked it! So what if its hard waa boohoo, I like a good challenge.:D

For the millionth time its not consistent or balanced and that makes it frustrating. Its stupid that I can knife someone and they die instantly but 10-20 rounds of bullets and they dont even flinch sometimes. Also shooting someone without using the sites should not be easier than using the sites. This is the only game I have ever played that has these goofy issues.

It's because you approached the monolith itself. Avoid it (go down to the lower areas) and you will find an exit. This will be the 'true' final area and will reveal everything to you as well as the best ending with a great story.
lower areas of what and where exactly do I go? please give a little more info so I can go back and play that part from a save.

It's a little tricky. I know what you are going through, there are 4 (I believe) different endings with the Monolith (which all suck, but then again they aren't the TRUE ending). I go the ending where I wanted to be rich and was crushed by falling steel and rubble (sucky ending). I though, wtf, all that for this?!?! Then I found out there was more to it...

Oh, and at the very end, there are two endings, a good one, and a bad one (make sure to save often to see them both).

When you are at the Monolith structure, there should be some I-beams and other rubble you can climb on. Look down (and I mean waaaay down) below. It is hard to see, but there is an exit which will lead to a laboratory/experimental area (with enemies in full combat armor; remember, head shots only!). The area that is below the Monolith is filled with bad radiation (if I remember correctly). Run as fast as you can to get below. There should be an exit door that leads to the next area.

If my description doesn't help you, I would recommend a walkthrough of just the Monolith area. It has been months since I beat this so I am going off of pure memory (which may or may not be questionable).

Good luck. I will help you as much as I can. Believe me, don't stop at the Monolith, there is a LOT more content which needs to be seen!

wait a minute I came in from down there and climbed up to the wish granter. I already killed all those guys. Im really confused as hell now.

so where is all the stuff from this video??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOGSKzuVtyM&feature=related

There should be another area down below where the radiation is really bad. That is where the exit is (as far as I can remember).

It's not the area you came in from, it is waaay down below that, but in a different area. If you are looking at the monolith at 12 O clock, the exit should be at 8 O clock (approximately).

All the stuff in the video is from the next area(s). It is really tough! Save often. ;)

You have to do all the quests such as talking to certain people, and getting the door decoder out of a building in pripyat. There is a ladder and a hallway to climb into in the same general area as the ladder you climb up to the wish granter.

The door at the end of the hallway is locked and you must have the decoder to open it. It will take a while to open, with a bunch of guys teleporting in in the process.

As far as I can tell you are on your own there. Maybe I am just a better shot...:p:p

Im not on my own when it comes to the complaints about this game as many others feel the same way as I do. I guarantee that STALKER had more people just give up on it than any other game in recent history. Also I have no doubts that you, along with plenty others, are a better shot then me. ;)

There have always been complaints about shot accuracy and the amount of shots it takes to down an enemy. I never saw this as a problem, I even enjoyed the fact it was a challenge.

I would imagine the people that 'give up' on this game have the limited attention span.

Not sure about that. Hellgate London sucked royal balls. After a person went through two or three maps, then they just saw the whole game. Talk about repetative. If the developers had put in about 20+ more maps then it would have been interesting. They also needed a darker/creepier element to it which was lacking. STALKER's underground area's are what I'm talking about. Those scared the shit out me, they didn't put me to sleep.

BTW, did you find the exit to the next area?

Have you ever noticed with the beginner guns, how the ironsights don't place a shot anywhere near where you are aimed? The only thing the sights do is obstruct your FOV. Which leads me to believe that the engine doesn't even use the ironsights to determine anything.

And STALKER's environments aren't repetitive? The wherehouses seem all the same. The external environments are bland (with the exception of the weather). The plot is basically retrieve documents from underground tunnel, return to barkeep. Go find more documents, take to barkeep. Lather, rinse repeat.

Not that I mind since I like both STALKER and Hellgate.:p

I cant get into that area because I dont have the decoder from the hotel. I went back to the hotel room 26 but it wont open because I didnt do the quest earlier in the game.

I liked Hellgate too, the first 500 times I went through the same 3 whole maps in the game. Boring. At least STALKER's areas are different. They aren't repetative. It's in Russia, so most of the terrain is going to look similar. But there are bogs, forests, factories, labs, towns, etc.

In Hellgate, you have the bases, which all look the exact same and the areas... wow. They are all the EXACT fucking same. I'm not saying Hellgate can't be fun, but it is only fun if you are in a large group of people, i.e. chat and/or lan party. Even then the repetition, lame environments, lack of challenge (and innovation), lack of maps, and weaponry which is all the same... are you seeing a pattern emerge? The upgrade and weapon system was cool, but after you go through a few sets of weapons, you just saw them all.

The patches never gave any new maps and the payed membership (optional) had bland rewards and features making it totally not worth it.

Honestly, I would have been fine with all of the above if the developers had put in MORE THAN THREE WHOLE FREAKIN MAPS!!!!1!!1!!!one!!1

rawr :D

That was my problem with Hellgate, and the fact there is no reason to group. stalkers environments were had a myriad more options then hellgate did.

I totally agree that Hellgate is repetitive. The levels have the same basic parts. I just don't feel like STALKER was much different. Although at least STALKER feels more open.

However the best looking parts of the game were the tunnels, but the tunnels all felt the same. Might as well be Hellgate. The buildings/factories themselves all looked the same. The exterior environments weren't differentiated at all.
