STALKER Questions

The artifacts I used, on my last trip through the game were :

Moonlight -- Adds 109% endurance but electricity hurts 10% more.
Urchin -- Defends 30 radiation but increases bleeding.
Mica -- large effect against bleeding (400%)
Meat Chunk -- Adds 400% life but reduces impact, bullet, and rupture.

and some +3% bullet cap .. not sure about some of those percents, they may just be a non percent addition.

I want to find:

Nightstar -- Adds 5 radiation, decreases bullet damage by 30%.
Soul -- Adds 600% life but reduces impact, bullet, and rupture.

Then there are the really rare ones:

Battery-A -- Adds 30% resistance against electric damage
Battery-B -- Adds 30% resistance against burn damage (see below)
Kobolok -- Adds 5% resistance against rupture damage
Mama's Beads -- Adds 5% resistance against bullet damage
Pellicle -- Adds 30% resistance against chemical damage
Spring -- Adds 30% resistance against impact damage

I just started playing this and uh...I keep dying from radiation :(

Like I'm not even out in the wild...I'm just in the main first town talking to someone and all of a sudden BAM I'm dead.

wtf lol?? Do you have to constantly take anti-radiation stuff?

Stay away from the fields if you can. The second you hear that fast ticking/clicking noise stop walking and turn around. The beeping is anomalies and you should stop walking and start throwing bolts when you hear that. Later on in the game you get suits that help with rad and bandits are always dropping tons of anti rad.

Draxx,
That reminds me.. If you look at your stats on the left it shows "artifacts found:", mine said 0 even right before I finished. Doesn't make any sense as even then I had like 5 artifacts in my backpack. Unless that "artifacts found:" refers to the special artifacts.

Probably just a bug or something.

if you installed a pda mod then that is what messed it up. My PDA replacement mod kept not displaying icons/info and so on. Uninstalled and all was good.

Nope, no PDA mod. It even did that before I installed the endurance mod.

My ending sucked, I made it to the wish maker as part of a quest for barkeep (or the guy in the duty base), and then it ended. I was like wtf cause it took me darn nearly 30minuts to get to the ladders cause of 14 guys by the doorway. I had three stashes full of snipers, rifles, shotguns, .45 pistols, medpacks, food and artifacts. I never found the rare artifacts. I don't wanna play through the game again just yet. It is fun.

I still can't accomplish anything in this game. I dunno if I'm just supposed to sneak around or what. I still can't seem to consistently hit anything that isn't about 20 feet in front of me. I've had some luck with the pistol, but nothing else is working. I shotgun blast people 5 feet in front of me and sometimes they die...while other times they require another 2 more shotgun blasts.
Right now I have the pistol (with silencer), the MP5, the sawed off double barrel, and the 3rd machinegun that I can't recall the name of (also with silencer).
I'm currently in Level 2...which is the one with what looks like an old hangar and a big pile of junk in the middle of the level.
I have TONS of pistol ammo but only about 40 rounds each of everything else.
I'm just getting frustrated with the total lack of aiming ability. I have the crosshair on and my resolution's at 1680X1050. I've tried stitching people starting with their toes, but that doesn't seem to damage anyone enough to kill them before I run out of ammo. I'd love to wait for people to get closer, but it's almost like they respawn before I've killed everyone and I'm in a never-ending cycle of killing bad guys and quick-saving.
Somehow something must be wrong with my crosshair or something.

What difficulty? Stop using the pistol unless you are really close. Aim for the head only. Install an accuracy mod and it still won't help. They still take forever to drop unless yo ustart headshotting them. Use cover. Sprint from cover to cover. Use nades. Install a weight mod to carry more ammo or something if that is the problem. That way you can loot quickly in the middle of your fights and sort stuff out later. You have to sprint cover to cover and sneak around in this at the start.

Yea, go back and double check the difficulty. I've heard some people putting it on stalker difficulty then when they have a hard time like you are, go back and check and its on the hardest setting.

Just double check that, and IIRC, I also had a difficult time at first in the Garbage as well. The viper 5 is inaccurate and doesn't do a whole lot of damage.

Is it ok if I fail a mission or two? I just failed one where I had to help these guys defend against a bandit raid.

Oh...and I somehow had the difficulty on Master for a long while - no wonder it was so hard!

It seems whenever I went to a certain level I had to help defend against a raid. After the 2nd time I gave up and kept failing it but once I made it back I could do it again...so its ok.

Don't forget to pickup every weapon you can find and unload it. Scopes help alot in this game.

When I first started playing I would aim for the sternum and let the weapons recoil carry the shots up into the head. I've gotten to where I only aim for the head now even on animals after a month of playing. I'm on hard now after beating it on medium. Shoot in short burst of about 3 rounds instead of holding down the trigger as well. Don't forget that you can select the fire mode on most rifles as well and they tend to be more accurate on single shot.

Once you find the Fast Shooting AK, attach a scope and grenade launcher as it will be a great wepon till you get the GP 37 later on. I prefer it (Fast AK) over the Obokan, SGI 5K, TRa 301, and the IL 86 since ammo is far more plentiful.

You can fail a few missions and be all right. Check the statistics section of your PDA to see what your reputation is. Failing a lot of missions even stupid ones like "find the ___" can hurt your reputation which does change the ending I believe.

I ended up restarting the game a while back as I took on a whole bunch of side quests at the start and in the bar along with running around doing the main quest. This led to me failing a whole bunch while I was running back to the bar/traders to hand in the quests. Now I just pick up only side quests, finnish them and then proceed with the main quest. Keeps me from running around a whole bunch. The bandit raid happes almost everytime so I just run around it now.

I wondered about failed quests too. I did 2 of the first ones to kill the Stalker and clear out the bandits, but I thought I’d be going back to the trader to turn-in the next quest also, and time ran-out on them since I was up at the bar by that point.

I love the fast-firing AK also, but I’ve never found any attachments for it and I just got done with X18. Do they drop or do I buy the scope and/or grenade launcher?

They will be on guns that enemies are holding. Pick up the gun into your inventory, right click, and you can remove any attachments like a scope or grenade launcher. Next equip the gun you want to attach the scope or grenade launcher to, and right click the dismounted scope or grenade launcher and an option will come up allowing you to attach it to your current weapon. Grenade launchers and scopes only attach to certain weapons.

Ah thanks, I must not have come across any yet then. I always pick-up every gun and right-click to unload it, and I‘ve never seen any option regarding attachments. Maybe I’ll find one in X16, which I plan on doing tonight (crosses fingers).

If you have done the family rifle, find duty members gun etc missions from the bar you should have at least 2 scoped weapons by now. When you first kill that one stalker sitting by a campfire in between a bunch of pipes and cement things you get a silenced and unsilenced LRM 300 Tacticals (I think that is the name anyways) which have scopes on them. His two buddies around him have the weapons though not him. Then during the duty member weapon quest a bunch of people drop ak's with scopes attached to them. His own gun is scoped and you can use it on the way back. When you see the gun on the floor you see the various attachments.

for the longest time, i was in love with my fast firing ak74 w/ scope and nade launcher. i just ditched it for a g36 and couldnt be happier. the only problem is that im chasing down the monolith, im at the top of the staircase, and the dudes in exoskeletons with vla rifles keep killing me before i can even see my health is low, much less use a medpack. should i pick up a vla from earlier in the level and use that, or keep trying to get lucky with my g36???

The GP37 should do more damage than the VLA. If you need to kill enemies quicker, switch to the NATO armor-piercing ammo. Or if they're around corners or bunched up, pull out some grenades.

Your armor makes a big difference in your survival north of the Scorcher, too. You should have a green suit from the scientists by now. (Obtained when you bring Ghost's suit to the scientist in the mobile lab) That's the best one that's readily accessible in the game. I'm playing with a mod that let me buy the military armor, and its bulletproof is  although the sci suit protects better against radiation and anomalies.

Also, I underestimated the artifacts that raise Bulletproof Cap on my first time through the game. 3%-9% (stacked) can make a noticeable difference when you're taking hits. They even minimize the bleeding when you do get hit.

all good ideas, thanks. and i never carry grenades, as i find them too heavy considering the good nades weight about the same as 3-4 clips of nato ammo. i bought the green suit, so it probably isnt my armor. i'll try that hallway again. it might have had something to do with the fact that i was attempting to gauss gun someone that was 5 feet away :D.

I hate that gauss gun, i headshot'ed someone like 3-4 times from ~10ft and they never died. Finally pulled out the vivatar (sp?) and killed em.

I read that the % health modifications actually don't work prior to the 1.001 patch.

Also, supposedly, they are regeneration boosters, NOT adding to your total health.

when i get a headshot with the gauss gun, ppl go flying like 10 feet back. needless to say i'll be keeping it as long as possible :D.

The gauss is not the greatest gun for that spot because you need to be able to rapid-fire to keep the enemy from getting too close and getting a bead on you. Use your GP37 or pick up something from a dead guy.

Grenades do weigh more, but then, 3 or 4 clips of NATO ammo can't be bounced off a wall to kill 4 guys who are bunched around a corner. :) 'nades can be your best friend when you need to kill someone without sticking your neck out. They helped me hugely on my way out of X19.

What I did at that spot in the Sarcophagus was lean through the door, and immediately someone opened fire on me, so I stayed in the stairway. You can maneuver around in the stairway and shoot the Monolith troops as they peek or try to come through the door. It's a devastating choke point if you're willing to hang around a few minutes and let them come to you. If they seem to stop coming, lean out and pepper them with a few shots to rile them up again.

When there are none left within sight of the door, then you can leave the cover of the stairway and make a round of the halls on that level (they go in a square). The rest of the enemy was pretty much on the half to the right of the stairs for me. You can get them all right by good use of cover or fast shooting over there.

I read that the % health modifications actually don't work prior to the 1.001 patch.

I've been playing without the patch, and the artifacts that improve health % do work for me.

They only regenerate, instead of 'increase your HP by X%', from what I can tell. The % is a measurement of the speed at which you regain health. The lesser ones may be deceiving people into thinking they don't work, because you have to watch your health bar for quite a few seconds after a battle to see the difference the weak health% artifacts make.

I hate that gauss gun, i headshot'ed someone like 3-4 times from ~10ft and they never died. Finally pulled out the vivatar (sp?) and killed em.

LOL, I think you mean the Vintar (silenced light sniper rifle), unless you clubbed the guy to death with your camera (Vivitar) :D

I need some help with Kruglow. I just crossed the fire tunnel/underpass on the way to yantar after adn Kruglow keeps staring at the tunnel with his gun out and wont talk to me? Any suggestions on what to do? If I kill him I can pick up a flash drive but I still fail the mission which I am not sure if it is a big deal or not.

I found that sometimes, when escorting an NPC, the NPC will go into combat mode and stay there. I found that if I run far enough ahead (the direction he is pointing in), they will put away their weapon and go back to moving.

When starting out into an area I have:
- 1 weapon, usually the M4 with scope and M203 (though I will ditch the M4 for the G36 on other play throughs as the M203 is bugged) or the fast AK with scope.
- 500 rounds of ammo
- 15 bandages
- 10 med kits
- 5 anti rad units
- SEVA suit
- 1 loaf of bread
- 5 artifacts
- 5 grenades if I am going into a build or lab.

Pistols and shotguns are useless past the first area, and there is no reason to have more than one assult rifle. STALKER is not a run and gun game so take your time to set up shots, keep your head down and behind cover. Also try to kneel and use a scope from as far away as you can. Grenades are only useful in enclosed areas. STALKER is not Diablo either so stop picking up every dropped weapon and trying to sell it. The only "loot" I pick up is expensive artifacts or unique weapons/armor. Dead enimies provide plenty of ammo and health items so no use carrying tons of those around. Money is pointless in STALKER so no use trying to build up massive fortunes.

I'm at a slightly frustrating moment right now...

I just went through one of the first labs X16? Its the one where you have to turn off the three switches then unplug the whole thing. Well my objective says to get back through "the secret" tunnel. The only way I know how to get out is via a ton of ladders, but I can't jump high enough to reach them! I don't know where to go.

This is what my PDA says to do.

This is where I am, if you can recall...

And a close up of the ladder I can't reach - even while standing on boxes.

Any help would be appreciated! Other than this little speed bump, I'm loving the game. I can't wait to get better armor so I can actually get decent night vision. Also, did someone mention that there was an armorer/weapons-dealer someplace? Where is he?

i was stuck at the same spot last week. in the room with the one mutant that gave you annoying psychic blasts, go to the back of the room (where the mutant was). check the little rooms on either side. one should have a hole in the floor for you to crawl out of.

Yep, I had the same problem. Follow GMonkey's advice, its the last "room" on the left where you shut the thing off.

what can you do if you get near a radiated place and get that red biohazard symbol on the right of your screen? i pretty much die bcs my health keeps going down, are their anti-radiation pils or something, or does vodka help :D

what can you do if you get near a radiated place and get that red biohazard symbol on the right of your screen? i pretty much die bcs my health keeps going down, are their anti-radiation pils or something, or does vodka help :D

Vodka and anti-radiation meds help dissipate radiation that's accumulated in your body (the yellow bar in your status area in the Inventory screen), but don't protect against getting more irradiated. On the ground, anti-rads look like a small bubble-package with two pills in it. Their inventory icon is multicolored, has a red cross in it, and takes up one 'square.' Anti-rads are preferable to vodka if you can find them, because they weigh less and don't mess up your vision.

To improve your resistance to radiation, which will keep that yellow bar from rising in the first place, try out new armor whenever you run across it (look for its radiation protection level when you have it on). The best suit in the game for rad protection is a green one with an astronaut-like bubble faceplate that you can get from some scientists; its radiation rating is 90%.

There are also artifacts which will lower the yellow radiation bar as long as you've equipped them. The drawbacks to the anti-radiation artifacts are Bleeding or reduced fatigue - the ones that make you bleed as a side effect will hurt you more than they help you unless you also equip a stronger anti-Bleeding artifact at the same time. The strongest anti-radiation artifact I've found is called Crystal, and looks like a lump of magenta/blue/white crystals. It's rare to find in the wild, but several quests net it as a payment.

Health-regenerating artifacts, medkits, bandages, and food can keep you alive longer by slowing the descent of your HP after you get irradiated. When you get the red icon, back off and hit the med supplies if your health is dropping fast, then go to Inventory and use vodka or anti-rads.

Usually the game does not torment you by asking you to go through high-radiation areas when you don't have enough protection available. If you want to get somewhere that's killing you, then...
1) You missed picking up some radiation-proofing equipment. Go back and look for more of the above items.
OR
2) It is a nonessential area that you don't have to go through to finish the game, or can go around. If you want some loot that's in there, then you can either wait to get better gear and return later, or try to rush it (sprint in, examine stash, take all, sprint out, gulp the pills or chug the vodka).

Listen to your geiger counter (the clicking heard when approaching areas higher in radiation), move slowly, watch your radiation bar (you can move with your inventory open), and you can sometimes find safe paths around high-rad areas. They can be huge, or very small with just a few steps required to get through/around.

Hey I'm having a problem when I finish an Arena match none of my equipment comes back...anyone know what to do?

your gear should be in the green box by the door , just to the right of where the arena admin guy is.
