So I give the copper block of my new apogee a nice 8 hour vinegar bath and when i pull it out, i get this:

W...T...F...

I rinsed it through distilled water and rubbed it with isopropyl but it wont come off. what can i use to get rid of it??? it still feels pretty flat and smooth when i touch it...so will it affect how well it cools the cpu?? Before i brought it out to clean, it was sitting in its original packagaing for a week

Have you ever been around copper before? Thats what happens when it oxidizes at different rates (fingerprints and other contaminants make it oxidize slower or faster)

It does not affect performance, it does not need to be cleaned, it wont be any problem for you.

Oh is that all it is? ...ahh im relieved. thanks for the info

whenever i buy heatsinks i always install it right away, but this time i'm waiting for my other w/c parts to arrive so the block has been sitting around for a while

Use ketchup to clean it right before you use it, no need for a long bath in anything. After you've cleaned it up make sure you never touch the copper part again with your fingers or you'll get oil on it and it will corrode much faster.
