Since I can not find what I am looking for which is a light weight tower I decided I was going to get the Cooler Master PAC-T01-E1 Praetorian. The I noticed the stacker is only $30 more ... isnt it worth the extra $30

From my low chasis knowledge, it looks like the STC-101 is beter than the 810 but I am not sure.

WHats the difference and which is the one to get?

I just bought a STC-101 & chose it over the 810. Mostly because it seems more flexible than the 810. Haven't built up the system yet but I picked it over the 810 mostly because with the STC-101 you've got a choice of putting the PS on the bottom or the top, & running dual supplies if desired. If I'm not mistaken, the 810 only has PS mounting on the bottom. I also want to water cool this case, so having the PS on the bottom seemed like it would take up some of the space I wanted to put the pump, & possible radiators. If you want to aircool., the 2-120 fan cutouts on the 810 are nice, but the STC-101 will mount coolermaster's cross-flow fan. For about the same price, the original seemed like the better deal. (Also, you can get a BTX kit for the original for 20 bucks. I don't think the 810 supports BTX. Might be more future-proof.) I looked at but didn't like the style of the 830. Too much $$$ for that also.

My other choice would have been a Tai Chi, but I couldn't justify the $$$ they want for that case.

Why?
Because it is infinitely more configurable.

The 810 seems to be 10 pounds lighter ...
Are you going off-roading with it, or what?
Why is weight an issue?

Does the Stacker, either one, come with wheels ... I am getting conflicting reports on that?

ALso, it comes with 1 HD cage that has a 120 mm fan attached and room for an optional 2 more ... is there a way to put fans there without the HD cage

I have both the 810 and the 101. The 810 is newer and better built, it's stronger enforced int he corners and the top is made of steel and not aluminum (big deal if your putting weight, modding, or simply loading the chassis heavy [top buckles a little]). The 810 also comes with all slot covers and comes with the floppy adapter, it also has two 120's in the rear where the 101 only has one. The 810 has only one psu area and the 101 has two. The 810 supports quad boards and they both support full extended boards.

They also both come with wheels ;)

They both come with the hard drive cage, other than using a bay cooler or those drive units, there is no real way to attach more fans on the front... I'm sure somoene must have brackets out by now for them.

Thanks for the information ...

I do not think the stacker will fit under my desk and I am not going to put this beast on top of the desk :) .... I have 24 '' clearance

How many HD can be installed out of the box without buying mor compartments?

I don't recomend stacker very much. Stacker has many installation difficulty. I also had experienced. These are discussed in CM's forum. So that's why I recommend you getting other chassis..... :) Good luck getting new case :D

Using the supplied drive cage you can install 4 HDDs...assuming you want to stack them like sardines.
Two per cage seemed like a better arrangement for cooling though.

The 101 also has a steel roof panel and the same corner brackets as the 810/830 series. Parking a Volvo on the roof wouldn't buckle it ( I've cut away most of the roof to add a meshed vent and it's still structurally sound).

Really?
I'm on my third STC-101 and have yet to experience any major problems.
This case is easily the most adaptable platform I've ever seen as well as the most overengineered chassis imaginable.
I have to believe that the designer was paid by the fastener...the roof panel alone is secured with 24 ( count 'em!) rivets and removing the motherboard tray involves 15 screws (which doesn't include the roughly 2 billion screws that make up the tray assembly itself).

Especially if you are considering watercooling, the 101 is the way to go.
So far I've mounted 2 different 120.2 heatercores and (currently) a PA120.3 (all mounted internally) without having to make a single cut in the case.

There are things I'd like to see changed- the 80mm roof fan is absurd, for instance- but all in all, the Stacker is a great case IMO.

2 ... ouch ... that defeats the purpose for me to get the stacker. Can I get atleast three comfortable with enough air circulation.

I am looking for something that I can fit down the road about six HD along with a couple Optical drives ... the P180 allows six HD and that is why I am concidering that too

Perhaps you misunderstood.
The Stacker ships with one HDD cage (which will hold 4 drives), but there is room for two more cages should you need them.
Or you can get a bit more creative and mount the drives using adaptors...

I am referring to the ' sardines ' part ... you say fitting 4 in the adapter will be a tight fit so I was asking if 3 hd would be ok and ' cool ' because if only 2 fit comfortable I could only get 6 [ 2 x 3 adapter ] and 0 optical drives ;)

the 810 is marketed as a server case while the 101 is more for enthusiasts. I bought an 810 and had to mod it a little to fit a crossflow fan. Both are great cases.

There's enough air circulation with all four. There's a 120mm fan on the front of the drive bay forcing a *LOT* of air through the drive stack. I have eight drives crammed into the bottom two cages, and they are all cool to the touch when operating (granted, mine are Samsung SpinPoints, which are low-temperature drives to start with).

Yes not a problem running 4 in one. It frees up to use two more 4-3 for some serious air flow...

Dunno for my current use I could as well have gotten a 810 though I have the cross flow fan and it´s really nice to have... You do´t get that with the 810. However if I want to go water cooling to be able to run btx could be handy...

With an Enermax Liberty, where do you recommend the psu goes ... bottom or top

Using all 4 drives in the drive bay is perfectly fine, it's no where near sardine packing. The airflow is great and your drives are very cool.

The 101 didn't have the steel brackets and steel top in the first revision, it was all aluminum on the top and had plastic brackets on the bottom.

Trust me, i can buckle it, I have 85lbs loaded in my stackers, the alloy top bends a little under the weight.

The 80mm top fan is a waste also IMO. I would rather want to see a small maybe 3 drive cage being squeezed in there for the 810.

I just noticed the rear fans are intake ... does the top fan exhaust enough hot air or do you guys turn the rear fans around

I replaced my fans with clear LED fans blowing out (the 120mm plus two 80mm in PSU bay). For the life of me, I can't remember what direction the original pointed.

i picked up the T01 a while ago, wouldn't trade it for anything else on the market.
my rear fan was set for exhaust when i pulled it out of the box.
as for the top fan, i dont use it - my 120mm rear delta and 140mm psu fan push out enough air on their own.

however dont count on those fans moving any air....because they dont. They are similar to these fans (as far as CFM/db are concerned): http://www.svc.com/saf-s12-e1-19.html

wait a second, you are telling me the fans on the stacker are crap and should be replaced ... if so, by the time you add everything up you can have a TJO7

Replacing a couple of fans (should you decide it's necessary...which I didn't) hardly brings the Stacker's price to the plus $300 range.

Unless you are using German fans, possibly.

Yes if you want a loud computer you should replace them.

Really the idea with the Stacker holding so many fans is that instead of having one loud you can use three virtually silent fans :).

There is a contradiction between sound and performance. Impossible to get a 100 cfm fan that is quiet...

I use the Stock and believe me it´s perfectly fine. Surely they don´t pull a lot of air but having 3 120 mm fans even if each only pulls 40 cfm is really enough.

That top exhaust everything that helps to keep the PSU supplied with cool air and thus not encouraging it to spin up is a great thing. A cool PSU works more efficient as well and will hold up longer...

Having a drive cage up there would require me to put the PSU at the bottom. May work fine but I can´t see how the Stacker don´t have enough space for harddrives already... I rather have that 80 mm fan. Though I would have preferred a 120 mm of course. Now it´s 100 % silent but move less air then the 120 mm fans of course. But anyway even without a fan it helps getting hot air out of the case...

As for how the fans are configured at stock what does it matter? It cant be easier to change the direction ;)

a lot of people are saying the origional stacker is better for water cooling, but i was more interested in the 810 due to the dual 120mm exhaust.

can a 2x120 rad be mounted in the front near the drive bays or the 810?
is there some other issue that makes the 810 less ideal for water cooling?
