Argh...

My gear arrived and I've been putting it together. Aside from Coolermaster supplying some 5.25 > 3.5 brackets (for the floppy) that didn't have pilot holes for securing... (Doh) It has gone without a hitch.

First off I fitted the X1900; with a little argy bargy it fitted perfectly. I then came to fitting the X-Fi, it wasn't having any of it. The actual braket is the same length as the cover brackets, but when I install it, it will only go so far down. The card does not correctly seat.

I was wondering if anyone had the same problem and what solutions are available. I'd rather not have to hack my X-Fi to bits because of something completely out of my control.

Heh, yeah. The thing that sucks is that I almost kitted it out too. Good job I didn't get too far.

Well I've fired off an email to an address I found from a cached page of the coolermaster forums (currently they have an SQL error, how bad is my luck? :p ) so I guess it's wait and see. I do hear that the european support sucks though, so all I can do is hope.

Fortunately I'm not exactly waiting on it, since I'm waiting for a RAID card and fancontroller that are to special order.

I guess I'll keep the [H] forum posted in case of anything interesting.
 
if your problem is what I think it is then all its gona take is cutting/filling (2-5mm) the bottom part of the x-fi pci bracket. You just need enough for the card to install correctly however dont over do it otherwise your card will be loose when installed.

The other way is to return the case, also try you other PCI slots as you might have issues with the raid card.
 
Good news so far.

A nice chap called Ron emailed me today; very quick response (same day effectively since I emailed out of office hours, the next day I get home from work and it's sitting in my inbox).

He informed me that it's possible to get a modified 830 PCI bracket, and that any RMA should be carried out via my supplier.

I emailed back asking for some more information on obtaining the replacement bracket. Aside from the initial hiccup (I'm guessing the case I have is "old stock" and that new ones ship with the modified bracket), it's looking promising.

Keeping the [H] Informed :)

Lets see, I last left off with an email to Roy (Ron was my mistake, it was Roy). After a bit of thread reading on the Coolermaster forums I found a form that I could fill in and submit and image with to get the updated PCI bracket.

I didn't get a response or confirmation. I left it a about a week what with it being easter and whatnot (I appreciate people have holidays and stuff), then I emailed Roy letting him know what I had done so far and that I had not got a response from the submittal of the form.

He apologised about the delay and said he was going to ship a bracket to me ASAP (meaning today, when he got the email), despite them only shipping spare parts on a Tuesday.

Well it seems to be case closed now, the modified bracket is on it's way to me.

This thread is basically letting other people know that European customer support does exist and function and the procedure I went through, should they not have success or something.
