I have a P3|866 with 1/2 a gig of PC133 and I had a GeForce2 Mx400 as of yesterday... I just installed a GeforceFX5800 card and I have already had somewhere around... 4-5 lockups out of nowhere, even at idle..?

I think think anything is overheating, the card gpu is sitting at around 110degrees F all the time and I dont think im lacking on power with my Enermax 550w PSU...

I have updated all drivers to... any ideas?

In your advanced video card properties, what is your "core slowdown threshhold" set to on the temperature readings tab? If its set too low, it'll crank down the card(although I tend to think this is a hardware issue). Also, have you changed any agp bios settings, or was it just a card swap?

The slowdown is at default 140C

temp sens says im at 41C and I havent seen it go above 45C yet

No BIOS changes needed, easy swap

could be software conflicts too. dirty driver install also. try running drivercleaner available at www.guru3d.com and totally removing any old display drivers. clean the driver.cab and the SP1.cab as well.

do all the usual other, update BIOS and such. your on a P3 which is a bit out dated, and the mobo your running i suppose is as well. the FX 5800 is a new era card with new era technology so yes you may have problems with hardware compatability as well.

sometimes the old mixes well with the new, and most times not.

your temps for the card are fine, and your probably gettin plenty of power to it, asuming you DO have the molex connected to the card.

try testing compatability by replacing your old video card and see if the lock ups still happen, then you can tell if it is a hardware conflict with the FX 5800. also, on that mobo for a P3 866 your AGP slot might be unable to run the card right. these new hi tech AGP cards are starting to surpass the speeds and capabilities of older AGP slots on older motherboards, so you may also be having problems there.

in my 12 years of PC experience i have noted one fact to be true when it comes to computers. older hardware rarely runs 100% with the newest hardware.

hope this helped you.
