I am going to buy a new system tomorrow but I am unsure of what power supply to get. I plan on overclocking immediatly when I get it, and install a water cooling setup in a few weeks. I've always gone cheap on my power supplies but this time I want one that can handle anything I throw at it :D . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Btw, I was thinking a 550w, is this overkill :p ?

CPU - Intel P4 2.4C ghz
Mobo - Abit IC7-MAX3
RAM - GeIL Platinum DDR500 (PC4000) 1GB (2x512mb)
HSF - Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu

I would use the search function on the board, but it's been disabled :(

The PC Power and Cooling 510 deluxe is about as good as it gets.

I have a Thermaltake 480watt Slient Purepower.
It's very stable even running 4 80mm case fans, An OC 2.6c, OC 9800xt, and an Audigy 2 ZS.

And with 2 more Fans in the powersupply that come with fanbus for a PCI Slot or 5inch bay. If that's not your thing then they can sense the temp and change to suit it.

RIG:
Abit IC7-MAX3
P4 2.6c HT @ 3.2
Areo 7 + 5 80mm Case fans
1 Gb Corsair PC4000 Pro
Ati Sapphire Radeon 9800XT

Well, as listed in my Sig, I'm using a Antec True Power 550W and it has no trouble handling everything I've got running ! :)

I would recommend the Thermaltake, great power supply and should handle everything you need. An Antec or an Enermax are also great power supplies but a little more expensive. The PCP&C power supply would be the best but is quite expensive and really overkill IMO. The Thermaltake would be the quietest PS of the bunch, not sure if that mattered to you.

Get the Antec TruePower 480 watt, it goes for little lest that a $100. Its the best and stable. If you want some fancy lights, go for the TrueBlue, its the exact same thing just with blue LEDs all over the place.

best money can buy but rapage on the wallet, antec 550W would be a good alternative. i love my vantec stealth 520W.

I'll add another vote to the antec true power 550watt. Rnd a Vapochill and an overclocked system real smooth with little to no voltage dropoff.

PC Power and Cooling is the Ferrari of PSU's, but if an Antec does the job, save your money.

whats the difference between True 550w and True 550w EPS 12v? that's what newegg is showing me.

btw, appreciate all the feedback! thanks

I would get antec power supply. All of antec psu are stable, so you shouldn't have problem :)

Try a Seasonic.. Better efficiency than all the above (just check silent PC review) and the new king of silent operation.

I'd like to see these guys make a name for themselves in north america, but it'll take a lot of positive feedback to sway the herd, as it were ;) ;)

*hugs his 400w sparkle* Really good, and decent price for how quiet it is. My rails are really good to, +3.3@3.46 +5@5.16. Not sure about the 12, but probably right up there. Any programs that can give a really good reading on voltages like this? Using MBM 5 atm.

true power or true control 550. it's 530W of the hotness.

thermalake sould stick to cooling
zalman works great (for a pIII)
antec is pretty much the ruler of this roost.

the pp&c is definately the best, but the truecontrol is still very good, and a hell of alot easier on the wallet.
