Stability problem on new p4 2.8e system

Just built a new system. Using a p4 2.8e prescott in an abit ic7-g with 2 sticks of 512mb mushkin ram in dual channel mode. Everything is running at stock settings. CPU idles around 42c and never seen it go above 59c under full extended load. Problem is prime95 will not run for more then two hours without getting an error using the In Place FFT torture test. I upped the voltage to the upper limit of the cpu, found spec here http://processorfinder.intel.com/scripts/details.asp?sSpec=SL7E3&Find=True&OrdCode=bx80546pg2800e . MBM5 reports the cpu voltage as 1.39 while the test is running.

Any ideas what could be causing prime95 to error out? I am not experincing any stability issues in general with winxp/games yet, only prime95. Is it safe to go over the 1.4v max spec shown on intels webpage temporarly to see if that fixes it? Not sure what else to try.

system specs:

Abit IC7-G Motherboard
P4 2.8ghz Prescott
1gig pc3200 DDR (2x512 mushkin)
eVGA 6800GT
SB Audigy 2 ZS
WinXP w/ sp2
 
Try lowering your RAM latencies, and finally upping your RAM voltages.

Edit: I mean relaxing your RAM latencies
 
why does that page on intel.com w/ my processor say 1.4v max and that thread says 1.55v? my ram is running stock settings and voltage is at 2.7volts.
 
well, i underclocked the CPU to 2ghz (143fsb) and prime95 ran all night without an error. Starting to sound like a bad CPU?
 
Sounds like bad ram to me. Run memtest86 at stock, and if you get errors, then try raising your CAS to 3, and if that doesn't work, up your RAM voltage by .1-.2.
 
yeah it does sound like bad ram now, especially since i tried running it at 150fsb using the 3:4 multiplier, which puts the ram at 200mhz but the cpu only at 2.1ghz. prime95 crashed right away at this setting and I had a hard time getting the ic7-g to boot at that setting for some reason? Dont know what that was about because the ram boots fine at 200mhz using 200fsb and 1:1.

now i have the system running at 2.8ghz 200fsb and the ram 1:1, but i relaxed the ram timings as much as they would go. ill post back in a few hours if prime95 doesnt crash. I had my ram voltage up to 2.7volts, seems kind of high already for it to be crashing, but ill try 2.8v next using the stock timings.
