Stability Issue with PC

Lately I have been having problems with my computer freezing up during games and once while using word. I have an ABIT VA-10 motherboard with a 2500+ Athlon XP and 768 megs of PC-2700 ram. The ram is namebrand(crucial) and the issues seem to occur primarily with games. When I installed Call of Duty - United Offensive, I had polygon tearing and errors, so I lowered the speed of the ram and and the core. I do not have polygon tearing issues anymore, but I still have frequent crashes. I have updated my video drivers and it still occurs. The crash involves the screen freezing, with either a single short beep from the computer or on occasion 3 beeps. This only happens after i have already booted into windows. Do you think it may be the video card? It is a refurb sapphire 9600 pro from newegg. If so, what would you suggest to do?

You may have already tried these but just in case:

Have you tried to slow down the AGP speed from 8X to 4X and disabled? Flakey AGPs often cause crashes. You can try it using the SmartGART tab in the advanced display properties. I don't think you're allowed to try disabling fast writes with a 9600 Pro, but if so, you can try it too.

The other thing you should do is make sure that your machine is stable running Prime95 as described here. If you're not 100% sure what the problem is, it's a good idea to rule out CPU and RAM.
 
I haven't tried disabling AGP mode yet, but it ran prime95 for about 2 hours so far with no problems. The other thing I should mention that it does is the display will go to multicolored blocks for a few seconds, beep, and then go back to the desktop. Its kind of weird, Im not sure if its because of the LCD(the lcd has speakers on it, so I think the beeps came from the LCD speaker, but i've never heard of an LCD with beep codes).
 
Is you vid card oc'd? Even if it isn't try underclocking it a bit and see if that helps.. But try the agp 4x setting first.. If prime95 is running OK and mem test shows no problems try an Aquamark, or 3dmark loop demo to test your vid card..
 
No, the vid card isn't overclocked, its at standard speeds. I don't know what else to try, it ran prime 95 fine for hours, i just looped 3dmark03 for about 2 hours without any problems or artifacts, yet i still have issues in games. Any other suggestions?
