So I am trying to bring back from the dead (again) my old shuttle st20g5.

I was hoping to make it into an HTPC or just a computer for surfing the net when guests are over.

I did the full install and it went well. I tried to do the windows patches and it crashes or they fail.

I have an ide dvd drive and a new WD 1tb sata HD. I have this idea that the bios doesnt like the HD for some reason. Since I cant install a bunch of updates, or there is just a hardware problem I cant load itunes and a few other programs, which I have never run into before.

Bios is updated, 2g of ram (which is the max, which sucks).

Any ideas ?
 
Did you check to make sure all of your device drivers were installed? Check the device manager and see if there are any yellow ?'s . If that bugger is like the HP 939 towers I have at work then you will need to get the apci drivers maybe from an old catalyst driver package as the x200 drivers were not win 7 compliant. Also make sure that your date and time are correct as that tends to make windows update all screwy.
