SSDs and Encryption

Are there any extra hurdles when encrypting SSDs as opposed to traditional platter drives?

It's typically a good idea to utilize an SSD's SED capability as it is instant and there is zero performance hit. The trick is finding a good piece of software to manage this feature.
Our go to has been Wave's Embassy Security Center, it's about $40 and works wonderfully.

Thanks for the info. What if I wanted to stick with software encryption? I can't get any real clear answers on whether or not it's feasible.

I use Truecrypt system encryption on my os/apps/boot SSD. No problems, fast and seamless between that and AES-NI on the cpu.
