Im running a old g1 intel 80gb ssd on a classified board without sata 3.

I need more space and want to buy another SSD.

What would be my best bet? Will i see a major speed cut because I dont have sata 3? Is it worth it to buy a addon card?

Whats the best SSD on the market around 250gbs these days?

I recommend Crucial M4 256GB , Samsung 840 256GB. Both can usually be had for under $160 US on sale.

No. Only benchmarks will suffer.

Is it worth it to buy a addon card?

Absolutely No. Most addon cards (that cost less than $400 US) will actually reduce your real world performance more than they improve it.

Samsung 840 Pro. Although it will not be worth the extra cost to you.

Thank you for the info.. I was just looking at the samsung 840 pro..I see you recommended the non pro version. Is there a big difference/

1. What's your budget?
2. In synthetic benchmarks, you'd see the faster SATA3 SSD's seemingly limited. But in the real-world, you'll still realize blazing fast boot times and application load times.
3. Nope...just wait until you do a full system upgrade and use the SSD in that build.
4. Pretty much the Samsung 840 PRO.

I just grabbed a samsung 840 non pro with the deal on slickdeals right now. $147 for the 250gb model.. seemed perfect for me :)

I'd chalk that up as a decent SSD at that capacity for the price.
