I ordered a new computer and it will have my 1st SSD I've owned. It's a Crucial m4 128GB. Aside from setting the SATA controller to AHCI, are there any general tips or practices which are good to keep in mind when you get an SSD (especially if they can extend the life or reduce errors)? Any other typical settings which should be changed in BIOS or Windows? Thanks!
 
Make sure it has at least 0309 firmware, though it likely will already at this point.

If running XP/Vista, make sure to turn off any defragmenter schedule on the SSD drive.

Neither should be a worry. SSDs have a longer expected lifetime and lower failure rates than a spinning disk. However SSDs still have controller problems and firmware bugs that without warning cause them to totally not function so make sure you keep a backup of your system.

Windows 7 and above will automatically detect you have an SSD and optimize a few settings for it like disabling the defragger since by defrag policies that are made for hard drives do not help SSDs.
