Hi!
My OCZ agility 3 is running very slow on my laptop, like 200Mb/s reads and 100Mb/s writes slow (tested on crystal mark) ... :(
The system is running slow as fudge as well...

I have set AHCI on the Bios, and I have all the intel chipset and AHCI drivers, still no go.
Tested the ssd on another computer and it's running fine.
Reinstalling windows did nothing.

The computer is an Asus 6930G laptop with dual harddrive bays, PM45 chipset, and ICH9-m southbridge.

What the hell could be wrong with this thing?! :(

What about the 4K numbers? The sequential #s are far less important because you generally do not spend all day copying 1 GB+ files from SSD to SSD.

It appears the 6930G is a 5 year old core2 based laptop with SATA II ports. This may be all you can get in terms of large sequential performance. I still expect you to get SSD performance in IOPS and 4K reads and writes and that should benefit your OS and most applications (that do not read or write in large chunks).

I know that sequential transfer was not very important but I thought that those numbers were indicative that something was wrong :p
I started to get worried when I noticed that boot speeds on this computer were virtually the same as the ones on another 7 year old laptop that I have with a recent 500Gb hdd...

The spinner would not have anywhere near 4K numbers of the SSD. Look at the bottom 3 rows these are orders of magnitude faster than a hard drive.
 
I just tested the ssd with compressible data, and I get the 250MB/s read/write speeds as expected from the sata 3Gb/s.
As I understood this is a thing with assynchronous nand ssd :p

So I'm not seeing the number I expected partly because of crappy nand, and partly because of sata 3gb and not a 6gb one. Is this it?

Meh, guess I was expecting a 10 second boot time or something stupid fast like that ;)

Both. Also marketing. The expected sequential # assumes everything compresses at 2:1.
 
Wow... still 106Mb/s seq. writes sounds pretty bad considering I have a 2Tb 5400rpm desktop spinner that writes at 120Mb/s sequencial :p

(will try to remember myself that this doesn't really matter ;) )

That is what is expected for the SSD you purchased or at least consistent with the AS SSD numbers I have seen over the years.

Although again should it matter since you only see these large sequential numbers in benchmarks and almost never in real world usage?

Well, I guess I got it thinking it was much faster that it actually is, those advertised transfer speed numbers are cr*p and mean nothing :p
 
Still... The read numbers on the ssd are twice the ones on the hdd, shouldn't the thing be booting much faster than the hdd? :p
(resuming from hibernation is superfast though)
 
Large sequential performance does not really help boot performance at all. Since nothing in the boot loads GB sized files sequentially (well for windows 7 or below unless you are using hibernation). Instead the boot tends to load a 100s of small files that are scattered around your disk.

The boot is helped by IOPS and 4K random reads and writes however IO performance is only 1 factor in the boot. Initializing devices is also a factor. Windows8 would also cut the boot time drastically as it loads more sequentially (does a hibernation of the system as part of the normal fast boot).

A key point there is in the title "boot test without any drivers" I assume that means he disabled all hardware that was not essential to the boot. He may have also reduced the applications to a minimum.

When you installed the SSD did you reinstall the OS clean?

Problem solved!!!! =D

It was not only the boot that very slow, the system was also very sluggish.
Now I've got my 13 second boot time and the system is super snappy! =D

The culprit?
This little bastard that was inside the card reader! :p
